My wife and I have never fly fished for salt water fish before we booked our trip with Tres Pescados Fly Shop. Booking was easy, our guide Rojo picked us up at our dock right on time, and he got us into fish with less than ideal weather conditions. This guy knows where the fish are! within a few casts of seeing our first schools of Bonefish and Permit we both hooked up, and there were many more after that. Such a great experience. I definitely recommend the folks at Tres Pescados Fly shop if you want to have a great time fishing the flats of Belize.

March 10, 2018 Hilian Martinez was waiting at the dock at 6:45 for me for our 7:00 appointment for day of fishing. Helian was great, very patient, professional, and a pleasure to be with all day.
First he checked my gear, reel, rod, knots, then checked my casting skills and gave me casting lesson before be we made the first cast to a fish. We caught 8 fish and had 4 hook ups and one break me off before 11:00.
We had a great day fishing in the first 4 hours with 4 more hours to go.
Thank You, Hilian for a great day, hope to be back in Belize to do it again.

Booked with Tres Pescados for a full day of fly fishing via their website. Very straight forward and smooth booking and received a confirmation with good trip preparation info. I also traded several emails ahead of time with the owner, Wil Flack, who was very helpful answering questions. I have fairly extensive fly fishing experience on fresh water, but ZERO on salt water, which I communicated to Wil. My guide Hilian was amazing; born and raised in San Pedro, Belize. He was a great teacher and was patient with my lack of salt water experience. It took some reps, but Hilian patiently kept me on the fish and I landed my first bonefish and then several more. I had a chance at some tarpon late in the day, but a damn jack swooped in and took the fly! Simply put: I’d very much recommend this outfit if you’re traveling to Belize for some fly fishing. I’m already planning my next trip with them.

"Communication after booking and paying online was next to impossible"
This " guide".Wil Flack is a SERIOUS injustice to our sport. Overzealous, Arrogant and RUDE.
Let's start with the fact that I am an IFFF certified master fly casting instructor. I am on the pro staff of many, including Simms, which Wil states he is a representative for.
The point by point review.
1. I had to initiate ALL communication.
2. Wil acted as if it was a difficult and arduous task to communicate with us, as clients.
3. He said he books over 2000 trips a year and can't possibly make personal contact - just an outright lie if you do the math..zero communication the night before the trip at 9pm, when we were due to depart with him at 0700 the following day.
4. He is aproximatly 32 to 35. If you are looking for an arrogant over inflated ego that refuses to communicatethan by all means waste your money with him.
5. Trip was cancelled due to weather, which was not his fault.HOWEVER, once canceled, his incompetence reared its ugly head again, rather than issue a credit for USD $450, he CHARGED the card again , totaling 900.00 USD.
6.He did not give notice of his $900 error, he, and his shop had to contacted repeatedly . We Chased him down again, and had to fight to get properly refunded, which required the intervention of the credit card and bank.
7. Two days later, still no credit, and Wells Fargo saw zero attempts from his merchant account to refund me.I gave him plenty of warning that I would be forced to initiate a charge back, he appeared to care less. Apparently all of his 2000 clients in his imagination have him so busy he has zero time to pay attention to detail.
8. He alleged that he was on his way to the New Jersey Flyfishing show, did a bait and switch with another guide for a Wednesday trip without our consent.
Now I have attended the NJ show as well as many others personally for over 25 years. All vendors set up on Thursday, however Wil was still sitting in San Pedro on Wednesday evening, still non communicative.
9. I am not the type to take negative feedback or action on a guide unless well deserved. Wil Flack deserve ZERO Stars due to his incompetence, arrogance and lies . Even though the trip was cancelled due to rain, I tipped the guide 50.00USD (thats tbe type of person i am), as he prepped the lunch and did come out with a good attitude. He can't help the fact that the shop owner is so damn abusive to clients that there would be no way I would ever return.
10. If you have read this faryou get the point. the young owner Wil Flack is passive -agressive, will NOT communicate, is in it to collect dollars and ride on the Simms name, all while being a pretentious "ars"
Do the sport a favor, book with any other shop, otherwise you will be wasting your time and money, and will be fighting every inch of the way for hostile and aggressive communication that Wil Flack believes is appropriate.
Don't get swindled into his lies and attempts to blow of many other negative reviews. His actions and other review speak for themselves. Take a look at his photos, of his alleged events, they are all local guys paid to put a tee shirt on.
Take your $ elsewhere if you wish to be treated respectfully, as a client, with the expectation of clear and professional communication, as Wil Flack and Tres Pescados Fly Shop is a SERIOUS RIP OFF.response / report this review -

I just got back from my third trip with Tres Pescados. My guide was waiting on me in the morning as usual. Throughout the day we had to dodge some rain storms but we were constantly looking to find fish and avoid the clouds. We covered a large area were successful finding fish. I'll definitely be back for trip number 4!

Very poor online booking. Over charged and major ordeal to get refund. Guide “Rojo” did nothing but talk about how great he was but produced nothing. If I wanted a tour of the island I would of hired a tour guide.
Why is it fishing guides always think there s@!t don’t stink ? It’s fishing !!!response / report this review -

I did some research before coming down here to fish the flats for my first time. Tres Pescados looked like a great place. Online booking was easy. The guide picked us up at our dock with the rods (spinning and fly) gear and yeti ready. We had tough conditions with too many clouds but our captain still put us on lots of bonefish. He even took us to hook a barracuda on a fly. He was extremely knowledgeable of Belize history which was cool to listen to his stories. I would absolutely fish with Tres Pescados again

From one of the well respected guide services on Ambergris Caye this was a disappointing experience. Communication after booking and paying online was next to impossible. The guide was poorly equipped for flat fishing. Slippery forward deck and no tackle. If I didn't have flies I wouldn't have been fishing. I saw lots of guides with nice boats which doesn't equate to catching fish but I'm guessing they also had tackle. I would try someone else next time.

My first fly fishing experience in Belize was a great one thanks to Tres Pescados! Very responsive to any questions I had prior to the trip. My guide Rojo did a great job of putting me on fish every day. Ill be back for my permit next year!
