We do not like zoos but this is not a zoo. It is a rehabilitation center for wounded or hurt animals. We were thrilled with the exhibits and the animals. All I can say is dont miss it and if you can make a donation to help every small bit helps. AWESOME PLACE!
There is one thing I would like to make clear. This is the world's "BEST" zoo. It is small in terms of international zoos, it has limited animals compared to other places, but each animal has a story, each animal is there for more than just your entertainment. Not only are the animals allowed to roam in large cages of natural habitat, but they have all come here with a history and are native to Belize and I have a lot of respect for that. Keep it up!!
Visited on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. Love that it's a haven for rescue animals. Sharon has done an amazing job with the animals and the facility. We took the Directors Tour which was amazing. Seeing the wildlife up close and personal was a once in a lifetime experience. The adoration they show for her is incredible. Definitely looking forward to another visit in the future
Great tour, not your usual zoo but more of a rescue zoo. Well worth the effort and cost. It is even handicap accessible to a point. Great for kids too. Bring your bug spray. Most of the animals are used to people and will come out of the habitat for viewing. They live in a very natural setting. Some are injured and couldn't make it in the wild.
One of the most fun zoo experiences I've ever had! The animals all seem to be thriving in their habitats, from what I understand almost all of them were rescued or born in captivity. Many of them seem to really enjoy interacting with humans, I assume because of their experience being rehabilitated or in some cases, former lives as pets. It's cool to be able to get so close to animals that appear bright and full of vigour.
Great experience! Easy to view the animals, tons of cats, and for a good cause. Highly recommend. Takes about 1.5-2 h to see everything, and that was with two toddlers (carry and walking). Wear long pants/sleeves as there are bugs.
I don't usually like zoos, but The Belize Zoo is quite unique. Animals that very unique and an environment that is quite in the middle of nature, not sterile and uninviting like so many others. If you can spring for the $50 tour, it's worth it. The guide feeds the animals as you go so you can see then up close. Good stuff!
The Belize Zoo has animals native to the country. It was a pleasant surprise because most animals were readily visible in the front of their enclosures. Too many zoos typicality have animals appearing as dark shadows in the dimly lit back corners of the cages. Belize has quite a number of wild jungle dwelling predators and at the zoo you can actually see them.
Excellent small zoo set in natural surroundings. Wide range of Belizean wildlife and super staff. I stayed at the wonderful Tropical Education Centre close by. They play a vital role in conservation of the countries plant and animal life. I would highly recommend both.
Terrific experience at the zoo! All the animals are native to Belize, so if you didn't get to see that elusive animal in the wild, this is your place. We were joined part way through our day by one of the zoo keepers who told us all about each animal, and even called many of them out of their comfy hiding places so we could see them up close. He taught a few of the jaguars and other animals tricks, so we were educated and entertained! When we were originally planning out the activities to do in Belize, we thought we would pass on the zoo; after all, we've been to many zoos before, right? But, when we got to Belize, we heard other tourists talk about how much they liked the zoo, so we decided to go. Best decision!!! It is a must see attraction in Belize!
Great Zoo!!! Amazing animals! You can get up close and personal with the animals. Many of the animals are rescued and saved for poaching. A really magical place to experience many native animals. Really feel like you are in the jungle that happens to be a zoo actually located in a jungle. Would visit again. Took the bus from Belize city, hoped off and on at the stop. Went on a Monday so virtually no other visitors. Had whole zoo to ourselves.
I was fortunate enough to tag along as a local tourist with a couple and their two girls on my way back from working a few days at Royal Palm Island Resort heading home to Dream Valley Jungle Resort. It was my first time in a long time. I give The Belize Zoo 5 stars without any hesitation. It was clean, the staff was kind, informative and forth coming. The Belize zoo animals were well taken care of; and what I really appreciated was that the animals habitat was left undisturbed which I believe gives the animals a sense of protection and freedom.
The VIP Tour with Sharon is a must! This was one of our most favorite tours, you get to see everything in such detail and learn the stories of the animals. You also get to feed and touch the animals which is an experience you will remember for a lifetime. I highly recommend the VIP tour, it is honestly money well spent!
The zoo is easy to navigate. Saw lots of animals and birds in their natural habitat. I like the signage for the animals and the corresponding map.
Recommending you should spend time reading their signs around the zoo. Super funny!! I fed the national bird Toucan and it is so cute. If you want to do that, you can tell the staff and they will lead you to meet toucan!! I remember the fee is $10 US.
In addition, it is easy to get there from Belize city!!! You just need to take a public bus and you can arrive there.
The zoo was humane and kind to their animals. Almost of the animals were rescued from the country. A great place to appreciate domestic species!
Tapirs looked cute, but they were jerks, they turned around and spray your direction
Excellent zoo to see many wild animals. Just make sure to bring bug sprays as you will be in the jungle, along with these animals.
Awesome zoo! Love how beautiful the setting is and that they are into education and promoting protection.
Perfect size for a zoo and loaded with animals from the country in a very nice and respectful setting. The way all zoo's should be. I pity the jaguar sent to Milwaukee!
Fantastic little zoo. The animals are close, well kept and a joy to see. Also the way the park is set up is very natural, one feels like walking in a jungle trail. Through and through a beautiful experience.
This zoo seems to be a labor of love for the founder and staff. Native species, with plenty of space for the animals (sometimes you have to search to find them).
This was a great place to see the local animals as it is actually a rescue facility. The enclosures were built around the animals natural habitat (jungle) and you were able to see the animals up close and personal unlike a standard zoo.
The best little zoo in the world. Often the owner will be about giving tours all the animals are healthy and happy. Probably the best variety of tropical wildlife ever kept in a zoo. This is a very personal experience and most of the animals have great rescue stories.
Wonderful selection of RESCUED animals.
Well kept. Totally worth a visit!
Met the lady owner who is clearly passionate about her work.
Be sure to cover yourself in DEET or bug spray to enjoy 1.5-2 hour visit. You are in jungle-like conditions so you will get bit.
