We went during the month of October when there was a huge celebration going on. On the drive up to the Buddha, we could see many tent colonies on the side of the hill. At the site itself, a huge marquee was erected in front of the Buddha where worshippers gathered under.
It was pretty amazing to see one of the biggest Buddha statues in the world. Construction was still ongoing but it looked to be very nearing completion. Inside were monks painstakingly restoring old scripts.

Visited this place in November 2016. A short drive away from the Thimpu city - this place lies on the peak of a mountain overlooking Thimpu city and the overall Thimpu valley. Placed here is the Gigantic Buddha statue that commemorates the fourth Bhatnese king. I believe it is one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world.

When I visited this place, a large religious gathering was in progress. I could see hundreds of monks of all ages busy performing rituals. The atmosphere was peaceful, serene yet enigmatic. Do sample out the pictures attached to this review.
