It's an amazing and beautiful place to visit, independent of your faith or religion.
This cathedral has an amazing architecture. Rich in details. You must see it if you are visiting the old downtown Sao Paulo. That been said, however, be aware of pickpockets around that area, most of them are just homeless but most of them will take your stuff away if they see an opportunity (this is not only a problem in that location but in the hole old downtown)
Loved it. Nice place to visit
Wonderful church but the city center is dirty and under poorly maintenance
Well maintained cathedral in a beautiful neo-gothic style. Maybe one of the few buildings in this styles out of Europe. It was amazing to hear the organs during the mass. The crypt below the church is also very interesting. Be careful, though, with the surroundings, the area near the church have a lot of homeless people. Although there are many cops as well, be careful all the time.
Really beautiful i looooove it😙 and police is every where. But a lot of homeless people in there. Cool place
he Metropolitan Cathedral of São Paulo is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of São Paulo, Brazil. The building, which is the city’s largest Catholic church, has a crypt so big it’s basically its own underground church. The massive crypt is located under the main altar. The vast hall, which is supported by beautiful Gothic-style arches and columns, is decorated with marble sculptures that depict the history of the biblical figures Job and Saint Jerome. São Paulo’s bishops, archbishops, and other historically important people are buried within.
It’s the final resting place for people like Father Diogo Feijó, who was a regent of Brazil during Emperor Dom Pedro II’s 19th-century reign and Bartolomeu Lourenço de Gusmão, a visionary and the creator of an 18th-century airship design. The crypt also houses the giant brass tomb of Chief Tibiriçá, a 16th-century native who converted to Christianity and helped the Portuguese Jesuits colonize São Paulo.
Construction on the neo-Gothic cathedral began in 1913 and lasted for four decades. Over 800 tons of rare marble were used in its making. Everything except the towers was completed in time for the city’s 400th anniversary in 1954. Despite having a Renaissance-style dome, the cathedral is still known as the world’s fourth largest neo-Gothic temple. It’s the main house of worship for the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption of São Paulo, which was created on August 10, 1591.
One of the biggest cathedral in the city, neo-gothic style, can hold up to 8000 people, there's guided tours typically offered on Sundays. The surrounding area looks a bit dodgy, visit during the day and stay away from baggers
It is a beatiful cathedral! Be careful walking outside and around the place, Sé Square is not so safe.
The Cathedral is good and the squre around it is very nice. But there are too many baggers and thieves. Looks so dangeros.
Beautiful church..
Like to pray there though i don't speak the language.
Visited this cathedral about a year ago and although I really liked the interior and the quick access their is to it (without mentioning how close other vibrant places like the Japanese Quarter are) the areas surrounding the cathedral don't tend to feel too safe.
I don't feel safe outside the Cathedral. There is alot of homeless people around. And when I visited there is a huge crowd outside, it's like a rally or something. So it was a very short visit because I reach late and my friends advice me to leave before dark.
But inside is very peaceful and I love the beautiful painted glass windows.
