Excellent hostel. Alex, Junior, and all the front desk staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Close to Lapa, lots of cheap food, a short walk from Flamengo or Centro, and right next to a metro station. Perfect place to stay.

Fiquei 10 dias hospedado no Kariok em um quarto compartilhado com três camas de solteiro, o hostel é bem aconchegante, os funcionários são excelentes, hostel bem próximo da Glória e perto do Centro sendo possível ir caminhando até os Arcos da Lapa, próximo ao Aeroporto Santos Dumont, o que facilita muito. Muito frequentado por gringos. O charme é possuir galeria de arte com exposições temporárias. Só não leva 5 estrelas pois o café da manhã na varia embora seja farto (pães, sucos, queijo e presunto, frutas, cereais, bolo e broas) e o wi-fi sobrecarregava e não tinha alcance em alguns quartos.

It is a very nice looking and well located hostel/ kind of tiny boutique hotel, if you want to stay on its single room.
The staff is both sympathetic and professional on its own way. It is definitely an easy going place without the chaos of what the word hostel usually resembles.response / report this review -

Nice hostel, clean and spacious. The rooms are really small and hiking up the stairs is a pain if you have a lot of luggage (fyi). For the price it is worth it because it's near the metro and you have several food option to eat out or order in. The tight accommodation is what I disliked the most, besides that this is a decent hostel option in Rio.

es un lugar muy bonito y ordenado. las habitaciones tienen lockers y baño privado compartido. el desayuno es bastante variado y la cocina es muy completa.

Hostel not repaid me, is not honest.
The hostel half the amount debited in my credit at time of booking in November 2013 card, I made the reservation within the cancellation described in Booking, but the company did not refund and was aggressive contacts. Requested intermediation of Booking after five months, with excellent service, tried that KariokHostel should make an payment after a month of trying and always making me comfortable, the Booking own repaid me. Be careful when you stay in this place, if it was not honest in this case, with a Brazilian, imagine what they can do with other guests, mostly foreigners.

I like staying in this hostel because it's clean and also quiet. Time in the streets of Rio can be quite exhausting so it helps. This is not so much budget backpackers place, it's usually used by the Brazilians so it is very clean, accept credit cards and has probably the best hostel breakfast you can find in Rio. Prices are same as in other hostels around here.
