The unusual Unique beer based recipes, local ingredients. Do not miss it
Good traditional Belgian food in a very nice and quiet area of the city.
What a charming find in the no-frills neighborhood of Marolles! I think the past complaints about the staff no longer hold true - we arrived at 10PM and there was no available table. But the staff offered to ask a table with empty seats if we could join and when the customers declined, they set up a table near the counter for us. Bread was immediately served on our table along with a sour cream spread and our orders were taken quickly. The waitress was also patient in waiting for my companion to choose her dish. The highlight of the evening was the very friendly owner, who was even nice enough to change my companion's beer because she didn't like it and even gave us a free taste of other beer. We also got a tour of the restaurant's museum next door. The dish (Saint-Pierre fillet) I ordered was good because unlike other fish dishes, the sauce didn't overpower the fish. My companion's vegetarian lasagna was also good so I would highly recommend to come here! Next time I'll try the mussels, it was so tempting seeing the other tables enjoying pots and pots of mussels (in Brussels). Enjoy :-) Tip: the world's longest running flea market is just around the corner! Place du jeu de balle.
The first impression when entering the restaurant is very positive, the decoration is based on antique items that somehow provide a welcoming atmosphere. We asked the waitress for advice on the available draft beers; she seemed pleased to give opinion. She suggested two of them. During the meal I ordered both, loved the first, was not so keen on the second. But I must say that it fit well the description she gave it.
Their specialty is beer-based cooking with seemingly typical ingredients (I am a novice in Belgian culinary). Choosing a dish from the menu is challenging: this place certainly deserves several visits to explore that many tasty-looking options! I was in an experimental mood and I eventually ordered a bloempanch, a sort of black pudding that was served with beets and potato/lard/cabbage purée. Every item on the plate was super tasty. As desert, I experimented sabayon, a cherry-flavored cream. I found it OK, but nothing earth-shattering. In retrospect I think I should have ordered an appetizer with my main dish, instead of the desert, the choice of appetizers being more original than the deserts.
Fair prices and good portions. The food is unique and can't find in other cities. Duck stew was hearty and duck meat was flavourful. Service was excellent but I would suggest making reservations as they were booked full when I arrived.
Deliciuos food, great menu with lots of choices, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Perfect to enjoy authentic Belgian food.
Nice food. Friendly staff. Good craft beers.
In terms of food it is rather good. Rather authentic. Service polite but not always warm. I had the impression of been treated as tourist. There was an accident at the payment as we wanted to split the bill by asking waiter to pay 50-50. In turn the waiter made 50 euros charge on two of us each. And when we found out she said she thought the tips were included. However the bill was 71 euro. I think she was playing dumb on purpose. I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU DOUBLE CHECK HOW MUCH YOU PAID SPECIALLY BY CREDIT CARD!!!
Great typical Belgian food. Good price. Cordiality
You will not have a better beer inspired meal anywhere in Brussels. Try the blanchepain, and take the kriek sabayon dessert
