This place is a historical place. Visiting this place I know about Ravindranath Tagore and his family. The village is also very nice.

A very interesting place if one wants to know more about Rabindranath Tagore. There is a family tree showing how they came to be known as the Tagores. Some rare photographs are on display too. The descendants are still taking care of the place under government patronage. However they seemed to be quite poor and don't have much income to sustain. They don't have any contacts with the Tagore branch in Kolkata. Tagore's roots here explains how his wife was selected from Fultala on Khulna Jessore Road. Interesting.

If you want to visit Rbindranath’s in laws house in Fultala, then you will need to go to Sonadanga, another bus-stand in Khulna.

পিঠাভোগ-প্রাচীন যশোর জেলার বর্তমান খুলনা জেলার রুপসা উপজেলার একটি সুপরিচিত গ্রাম। সবুজ শ্যামলিমায় ভরা এ গ্রাম। বিশ্বকবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের আদিপুরুষের বাড়ি এই পিঠাভোগ গ্রামে। এখানকার কুশারী পরিবার কবির আদিপুরুষ। ১৯৯৪ সালে রবীন্দ্রনাথের আদিপুরুষের একটি কারুকার্যময় সুদৃশ্য দ্বিতল ভবন খুলনার জনৈক ব্যবসায়ী ২ লক্ষ ২৪ হাজার টাকায় ক্রয় করে ভেঙ্গে নিয়ে যায়। উল্লেখ্য, যশোর বৃটিশ ভারতের প্রথম ম্যাজিস্ট্রেসী জেলা। ১৭৮১ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে প্রাচীন যশোর জেলা সৃষ্টি হয়। ১৮৪২ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে খুলনা যশোর জেলার মহকুমা এবং ১৮৮২ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে যশোর জেলা থেকে খুলনা পৃথক জেলায় রুপান্তরিত হয়।
১৯৯৪ সালে পিঠাভোগ গ্রামের বাসিন্দা অধুনালুপ্ত দৈনিক আজকের কাগজ ও দৈনিক জন্মভূমি পত্রিকার সাংবাদিক অরুন শীল (বর্তমানে মাগুরা থেকে প্রকাশিত দৈনিক খেদমতের বার্তা সম্পাদক) কবির আদি পুরুষের বাড়ী শিরোনামে দৈনিক ইত্তেফাক পত্রিকায় একটি প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশের পর বিষয়টি সকলের নজরে আসে। সংবাদটি প্রকাশের পর সংস্কৃতি বিষয়ক মন্ত্রনালয়ের নির্দেশে সে সময় খুলনার তৎকালীন জেলা প্রশাসক কাজী রিয়াজুল হক কবির আদি নিবাস সংরক্ষণের উদ্যোগ নেন। কিন্তু ইতিমধ্যেই আদি নিবাস পিঠাভোগের বাড়িটি বিক্রি করে দেওয়া হয়। বাড়ি বিক্রির পর সরকারিভাবে অবশিষ্ট অংশ সংরক্ষণ করে ১৯৯৪ সালের ২৪শে নভেম্বর পিঠাভোগে রবীন্দ্র স্মৃতি সংগ্রহশালার আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করেন। জেলা প্রশাসক রিয়াজুল হকের সাথে হাত লাগিয়েছিলেন অনেকেই।response / report this review
