The creation of a band of skilled manpower equipped with latest knowledge of science and technology is a must to achieve a prestigious position in this modern world. As a part of ensuring quality education, with immense expectations of the southern coastal inhabitants of Bangladesh, a new university named Noakhali Science and Technology University (abbreviated as NSTU) was established on 15 July 2001 enacting the Noakhali Science and Technology University Act 2001. Finally, it started its academic activities on 22 June 2006. The inclusion of the study of humanities implies the urge felt by the concerned authority to create leaders who will fashion a more humane and just world. The university not only engages itself in teaching and research but also provides societal services for the benefit of rural and urban populations.

One of the best public university of the country which is making it's mark by the recent time. The campus is just 20 minutes far from the city area. It is located on the bypass way of Sonapur-Steamerghat. It has a great view inside the area. The area is large enough to make the mind educated with the help of nature. Although there are construction in process. Students from across the country studies here. There are internal hostel for the students though it's not 100%.

The natural setting along with its human habitation of the Southern regions of Bangladesh has been endowed with the vast and immense potentials that can fully be harnessd only through the creation of a band of skilled manpower equipped with the latest knowledge of science and technology. With this end in view, a decision to establish a full fledged Science and Technology University at Noakhali was arrived at by the Government of Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of the then Prime Minister Jananetri Sheikh Hasina in 2001, followed by the circulation of Noakhali Science and Technology University Act in the official gazette notification on 15 July 2001. The fundamental goals and objectives for establishing this university are: (a) to maintain coherence and attain equality with the latest advancement in science and technology of the world and (b) to facilitate, at the national level, opportunities of higher education and cultivation of modern knowledge in the form of teaching and research and extension thereof. A new movement had thus been initiated in the life and activities of the long neglected coastal regions of Southern Bangladesh. This Act came into effect on 25 August 2003 and the academic programs of the university commenced on 22 June 2006.

Noakhali Science and Technology University (নোয়াখালী বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) (popularly known as NSTU) is a newly established public university in the coastal terrain Noakhali of Bangladesh. It is the 27th public university (out of 32) and fifth science and technology university in Bangladesh when it established, while in 2013, it places as 10th public university (out of 38) and 2nd science and technology university in national ranking. Its foundation stone was laid on 11 October 2003 and academic activities started on 22 June 2006.
