The Prime Minister of The Peoples Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina founded the foundation-stone of MBSTU at Santosh, Tangail in 1999. Md. Yousuf Sharif Ahmed Khan was appointed as its first vice-chancellor on 21 November 2002. Classes began 25 October 2003 with 5 teachers and 83 students.Initially the university had two departments, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The following year two more departments were added, Criminology and Police Science (CPS) and Environmental Science and Resource Management (ESRM).
In the 2003-2004 academic session, three more departments were opened: Textile Engineering (TE), Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (BGE), and Food Technology & Nutritional Science (FTNS). In the 2010-2011 academic session, four more departments were added: Business Administration,Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics. In 2012, Mathematics and Statistics split into two departments.In the 2013-2014 academic session, two more departments were added named Pharmacy and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, founded by VC .
Between 2013 and 2015, MBSTU was the scene of several violent clashes allegedly involving the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL). University staff were beaten, payments were extorted, buildings were vandalized, classrooms were set on fire, and in May 2015 a student was killed, which caused Vice Chancellor Mohammad Alauddin to temporarily close the university.

Every year, almost 800 (currently 795) students are enrolled in undergraduate programs to study in this institution. The number of teachers is about 169. The University has continued to expand over the last few years. Background of the Establishment of the University:
In rder to establish Science and Technology University in each of the twelve old and greater districts (where no University exists) in the initial stage under the heading of six Projects,the then Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh laid down the foundation stone of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University at Santosh under the Tangail Municipality on 12 October 1999. Bangladesh National Assembly passed a bill for founding Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University on 12 July 2001, which is regarded as the “Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Bill-2001.” That bill has been effective from 21 December 2002 by a government notification. This University is the first of its kind among the public Universities of Bangladesh.

I've visited there with my nephews. they were enjoyed lot in this campus. and also inspired with its neat and clean campus and the monument of kazi nazrul islam and Rabindranath tagore. And also we've enjoyed the "Mangso-Vat" in this premise.
This University is best for Technology and the teachers are very expert. I hope This University will be one of the best university in the world.
