It is public university of Bangladesh situated in Joydebpur, Gazipur. It is one of the reputed Engineering University for the study of Engineering in Bangladesh. This university originated in 1980 as a Faculty of Engineering under the University of Dhaka. In June, 1986, under the name of Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Dhaka, the institute became an autonomous institution empowered to award degrees. From September 01, 2003 the Institute has started academic journey as a University named as Dhaka University of Engineering and technology, Gazipur. It is the only public University for Diploma Holders who are wanted to do their graduation from public University. The environment is so Natural here as the place is outside the dhaka city. Though the campus is quite small rather than other public University, it is so far quite and beautiful.

To meet the growing demand of computer technology and Textile sector, Department of Computer Science and Engineering was opened in 2000 and Department of Textile Engineering in 2006. To extend its capability in serving the country DUET, gazipur has opened more Departments, Architecture and Industrial & Production Engineering, in 2011. Till today, it has produced arround 7000 graduates and post graduates in different branches of Engineering and has established a good reputation all over the world for the quality of its graduates. The curricula of DUET, Gazipur address the regions practical needs, present and future, through undergraduate and graduate programs.

Though its name begins with Dhaka, it is located in Gazipur, the neighbouring district of the capital city. It opens an open opportunity for the incumbents for higher education in this category. Background of the Establishment of the University:
The University started its operation in 1980 as College of Engineering at its temporary campus at Tejgaon, under the University of Dhaka and used to offer a four-year Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering to meet the growing need for advanced engineering education in Bangladesh. After a short span of time, the College of Engineering was renamed as Dhaka Engineering College in 1981. Dhaka Engineering College shifted to its present campus in Gazipur City in 1983. Dhaka Engineering College was promoted to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Dhaka as a degree granting Institute under the Government Ordinance in 1986 to overcome various problems it had been facing since its inception. BIT, Dhaka was changed to a full-fledged University as “Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur” since 1September 2003. The University administration is largely defined and determined by the University Act (Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur Act, 2003). DUET has ultimately turned into an Institution that now boasts its commitment to quality engineering education and already has earned a good reputation across the globe for the quality of its graduates. So far, it has produced around 6,300 graduates in different branches. The curricula of DUET address the needs of the present and the future through its undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

The Campus

DUET, Gazipur has a compact campus with library, auditorium, halls of residence and residential buildings for teachers and employees within walking distance of the academic building. Post Office is also located in the same building

Climate

Bangladesh generally enjoys a sub-tropical climate. The three prominent seasons are winter, summer and monsoon. The warmest days in Dhaka region are between April and June with temperature ranging from 25C to 37C. Winter temperatures usually vary between 10 to 20C

Location

The University's 20-acre campus is located at Gazipur District, 40 km north of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, by the side of the BIDC road. This district town Gazipur is well connected by roads and Railway with Dhaka and other cities of Bangladesh

Transport

For the convenience of the students, officers and staffs DUET, Gazipur operates its own shuttle Bus service between Dhaka city and the campus. In weekends special services are also provided for the weekend recreational and other needs

One and only Higher education place for diploma student. Well decorated place. Canteen provides good foods in cheap rate. But I think admition system is quite tough because of the old non-tech syllabus.
