Dhanmondi Lake is a lake located in the Dhanmondi residential area in Dhaka, Bangladesh.[1][2] The lake was originally a dead channel of the Karwan Bazar River, and was connected to the Turag River. The lake is partially connected with the Begunbari Canal. In 1956, Dhanmondi was developed as a residential area. In the development plan, about 16% of the total area of Dhanmondi was designated for the lake.[3]

The lake has become a well visited tourist spot, with cultural hubs such as the Rabindra-Sarobar located along its side.

Its origins can be traced back to the late 1950s, beginning as a residential area for the city, and over the decades evolving into a miniature city, with hospitals to malls, schools, banks, offices and universities. After the liberation war, it primarily consisted of two storied houses. The founder of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, lived and was assassinated in Dhanmondi, along with most of his family, in 1975.

Very popularly known place because of the Bangabandu memorial museum and his historical living place nearby. But the area gets really crowded at most times and remains the same past midnight everyday. The place has got seriously environmentally polluted because of the large dustbins placed nearby. It gets almost impossible everytime to stay there nearby due to severe stings from waste garbages remaining filled and jammed on those dustbins. There is potential place for walking and roaming around that road but those unhealthy atmospheres makes them really impossible.
