The aim of BUFT is to produce versatile and resourceful practitioners with scientific, technological and social knowledge and equip them to overcome the challenge of the 21st Century with the following Specific objectives:

To develop BUFT as an international standard institute of Apparel, Fashion Design, Apparel Merchandising, Textile Technology and other allied areas such as leather and accessories design, fashion modeling, fashion photography, fashion marketing etc.
To delivery international standard education in fashion and technology and other areas as mentioned.
To strengthen the Bangladesh export oriented RMG, textile and other allied industries by providing technically skilled human resources;
To increase the overall efficiency and productivity of the RMG, Textile and other allied sector through development of human resources.
To develop technical competency and consultancy skill relating to local, national and international issues on RMG, Textile and allied areas.
To provide technical assistance in all aspects of Garments Manufacturing, Designing, and marketing of the local Garment, Textile, Apparel and allied industries.
To keep close contact with the students and employers to fulfill their intellectual and creative potential.
To create opportunities for development and training of the employees and staffs of the RMG, Textile and allied sector.
To establish and maintain close links with the similar local and foreign institutions to encourage exchange of staffs and students.

It's not the permanent campus.This university was set up In March 2012. Before that it was functioning as BGMEA Institute of Fashion & Technology (BIFT) with the affiliation of National University from 1999.
This university's marchandising, knitwear, apparel manufacture, fashion design is popular courses (bsc & mba). In here technology is tag with almost all the courses.
It also offer various types of popular diploma courses.It provide scholarship in some cases. Recently it started bus service.

BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology or BUFT is a university in Bangladesh.[1][2] It was established with the aim to produce technically competent human resources for the Ready Made Garments sector of the country. It was established by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association in 1999. It started functioning in 2000 and was affiliated to the National University, Bangladesh in 2001. BUFT, in collaboration with international organizations such as United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), European Union (EU), German Technical Co-operation (GTZ), and the South Asia Enterprise Development fund (SEDF), is working for further growth and development.

BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) is a prime University of Bangladesh aimed to produce technically competent human resources for the RMG sector of the country. It was functioning from 1999 named as BGMEA Institute of Fashion & Technology (BIFT) with the affiliation of National University.The University was set up in March 2012 Under the private university Act 2010. BUFT is offering 2 year MBA degree course in Apparel Merchandising and 4 year B.Sc courses in Apparel Manufacture & Technology, Knitwear Manufacture & Technology and Fashion Design & Technology, Textile Engineering, Textile Management, Bachelor of Business Administration along with 1 year Diploma courses in Apparel Merchandising, Apparel Manufacture Technology and Apparel Engineering & Production Planning. Besides, it is also conducting 6 months certificate courses in Woven Garment Merchandising, knitwear Merchandising, Sweater Merchandising, Fashion Design Technology, Quality Control & Compliance in Apparel Industry, Production Management, Enterprise & Resources planning and 3 months short courses in Sewing Machinery Maintenance, Computer Aided Design, Modern Dying-Printing & Finishing Technology, Pattern Cutting, Production Management. The MBA and B.Sc. courses are governed by the rules and regulations of BUFT approved by UGC.

BUFT is situated in a prime location of Uttara Model Town of Dhaka Metropolitan City, having a good communication network with all areas of Bangladesh. It occupies about 95,000 sft of floor space of classrooms, laboratory, library, faculty rooms, auditorium, students’ common room, and office rooms. The laboratories include computer lab, CAD lab, sewing lab, knit lab, textile testing lab, pattern lab, weaving lab, product development lab, fashion design studio, display center etc. All labs are equipped with state of the art equipments. There is rich collection of books and journals in our library, Students have the Broadband Internet facilities free of cost. All classroom, library, laboratory, faculty rooms, office, auditorium are fully air conditioned and classrooms are fitted with overhead projectors, multimedia and other teaching aids.

Beside formal academic activities BUFT students regularly participate in different extra-curricular activities; such as sports, cultural program and co-curricular activities. BUFT students organize regular fashion shows with their created dresses and act as model in the fashion shows, actively participates in the BATEXPO, International fashion design competition and contributes BATEXPO fashion shows by providing self-designed dress for the models. BUFT faculties and students are also contributing BATEXPO fashion show management in every year.

Considering the future demand, BUFT is planning for academic and infrastructural expansion. As part of the academic expansion we are also planning to organize 4 year Under graduate courses in Industrial Engineering, English, Law etc and M.Sc courses in Apparel Manufacturing Technology (AMT), Fashion Design and Technology (FDT), Knitwear Manufacturing Technology (KMT), and Textile Engineering. Diploma course in Leather Design, Certificate courses in Fashion Photography and Fashion Modeling courses, Fire Safety & Management in near future. BUFT has collaboration with London College of Fashion (LCF), University of Arts, London, UK; Niederrhein University, Germany, Liberec University, Czech Republic and National Institute of Fashion & Technology (NIFT), India, to promote and strengthen its academic, training and research activities for achieving international standard. Other Organization such as; European Union (EU), UNIDO, SEDF, GTZ, American Efird Group (A&E) are also partners of cooperation with BUFT. University maintains a high academic standard and has a good market reputation. BUFT recently started construction work of its permanent campus in Dhaur, Turag near Uttara model town.
