Amazing retreat. Owner can be found at the building serving drinks and chatting to people and made us very welcome. Kids loved his cat and dog. Beautiful garden. Could spend here all day!
The highlight of my trip to Barbados. Of all the islands I visited, this was the one spot I couldn't miss. I loved the gardens. It even rained while we were there and that made it even more awesome. Lush tropical rain forest. :D
I felt like I'd died and gone to heaven in this beautiful garden. I love drawing and watercolour painting and I could have stayed there from dawn to dusk as there was so much to see and such inspiration in the imaginative planting of Barbados's beautiful flowers and foliage plants and huge palm trees. To make it even more relaxing classical music was played at just the right sound level to make you feel totally relaxed. Could be a bit difficult getting around if you get puffed out easily as there are a lot of ups and downs and the paths are narrow. However there are little resting places dotted around to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds. I loved it and if I'm lucky enough to be able to go there again I will stay all day or even a few more days.
Here now 12/3/18. Lovely place to visit. Very calm and relaxing. Beautiful service and drinks on the veranda. The host is a rare treat to meet. Gracious, engaging and a marvel of information. Such a beautiful place to visit.
So rare to find someone who had a passion and followed it through and built it.
Anthony thank you for everything.
Highlight of our trip! Such beautiful gardens. A very relaxing enjoyable few hours. Enjoyed looking at all the beautiful plants with the classical music played in the background. Truly impressive. We liked finding out about how the gardens came to be and how they are maintained.
Really enjoyed meeting the very friendly and lovely owner and creator Anthony over a drink and some cake. We bought a couple of really pretty mugs and homemade marmalade for gifts for family back at home. The whole souvenir shop was really lovely. Lots of beautiful bits at reasonable prices too.
We felt so relaxed wandering around and sitting on the sofas chatting to Anthony and the other visitors who walked round the garden. We also liked meeting little Flora (a sweet and calm rescue dog!).
We saw a family of green monkeys too which was a nice end. All in all a lovely day! Thanks a lot Anthony and team.
We will be back next time we’re in Barbados !
Thank you
We love it here and visit every year. It is a beautiful garden with lots of paths leading to secluded seating areas. We took a picnic and finished off at the house for cake and rum punch. Perfect.
The garden is nice, but entrance fee higher than expected. We paid 15 USD each and half that for the kids. It is nice to take a slow stroll through the garden's different sections. There are also several places where you can sit down, relax and enjoy the environment.
Not been yet but wanting to on our cruise stop in Barbados in January. Please somebody tell me what is the recommended way to get there? local bus ? taxi? or are the local tours safe and dependable to book online ? the cruiseship tour does NOT include Hunte's gardens. please guide me somebody ! many thanks. Emeline
The landscaping/sink hole layout of this place makes it stand out from any other gardens I've been to. Photos don't do this aspect of it justice, more than worth the US$15 entrance fee. We saw hummingbirds, monkeys, lizards on top of all the fabulous tropical plants!
If you love nature then Hunte's Garden is the place to visit. My experience there was quite relaxing
To call it heaven on earth would not do it justice. Anthony Hunte is a visionary, and he has put together something truly inspiring here. Located in a sinkhole near the centre of the island, this medium sized Botanical Garden could be rushed through in 15 minutes if one was so inclined, but that's not really the point of the place. It is meant to be savored and reflected upon. There are little resting places through the garden appointed with antique furniture for you to sit, relax, reflect and take in the view. There is as much to hear as there is to see; birds and monkeys sing their songs lustily all day while piano or or opera music gently wafts through the garden. This garden is densely planted Ave uses tropical plants of every description. All sizes, shapes, colors and textures are represented here. You'll probably never a large variety of flowers, leaf forms and colors, as you will here. Cover is US$15 and worth every penny. Come here, stay for a few hours in silence taking it all in. Before you leave, head up to the patio of the old house for a drink with Anthony!
A personable host. A wonderful and tranquil garden. Not wheelchair friendly.
This place is paradise, flowers, plants, birds and even monkeys in their most beautiful and pure environment. Spending few hours sitting in this garden is joy for the soul. Can be reached by local bus from Bridgetown! Strongly recommend it!
Spent about 3 hours here. What an intelligent and wonderful man. made us some fresh drinks and told some stories. Must see if in Barbados
An amazingly tranquil tropical garden, definitely worth a visit (even if you've already been to the Flower forest as it's different). Never been anywhere like it. It's like 'The Lost World' although in a sink hole rather than plateau; you expect a tyrannosaurus to pop through the vegetation any time! Stunning array of lush plants and flowers accompanied by birdsong.
Spent 2 hours here. Had a great time. Is a sanctuary. I took so many photos of stunning flowers and plants. Even spotted a monkey and plenty of lizards. Enjoyed a drink in Anthony Hunte's house afterwards. Fantastic signage around the whole island (as previously stated). Parking was sparse as there were a couple of coaches parked, but a lady attended to us quickly and guided us on a space to park in. Would recommend this for everyone visiting Barbados.
We had a wonderful time visiting Hunte's Gardens and were especially pleased to meet the great man himself especially so as my wife had mistakingly assumed he was the same age as the property (100yrs plus) and therefore dead and gone. But thankfully he's alive, fit and well and a wonderful man to meet. Whilst working hard as head gardener, waiter and bottle washer he also provides a wonderful insight to his creating the gardens. He describes with great candour the good times and bad times he experienced during the many years of hard work creating these beautiful gardens that have been visited and enjoyed by people from all corners of the world, including many famous celebrities and Royalties (sit and enjoy a cold beer in the very same seat Helen Mirren sat it)
A must visit that you will never regret and will remember forever.
Hunte's Gardens is a lengthy (by Bajan standards) taxi ride away from the busy southern tip of the island, but it is well worth it. The lush sights and sounds are absolutely refreshing for those looking to get away from the hot Barbados sun for a couple of hours. Mr. Hunte's hospitality is world-class, greeting every visitor personally and chatting with them on his terrace after their tour. Highly recommended.
Heaven.
The most beautiful place ever?
Pictures on google do this place absolutely no justice!
Must go.
Take bathseba bus (out of city)
Walking there is brutal/not suggested
(Bus ride back (to the city) is like a roller coaster!)
HOLD ON TIGHT!
A must see while in Barbados. This garden is truly a work of art and you feel as if you've entered a different world as you tour Anthony's creation. So much to look at and take in. Also lots of places to sit and soak in the scenery and escape the heat. Highly recommended!
Lovely Gardens, a must visit on Barbados. This is my favorite garden attraction on the island. Outstanding designs of unique outdoor spaces. Character galore. The birds sing symphony in the trees and the foliage is a cacophony of visual stimulations.i could spend a whole day finding peace in this garden.
I'm a horticulturist of 3 years from Central Florida and I can tell you that you will not be disappointed. Beautiful landscaping and plenty of rest spots. Free refreshments as well. Very impressed.
Hunte's Gardens is the most spectacular attraction in Barbados that I have seen in the 20 years that I have been coming to beautiful Barbados. The slogan of "most enchanting place" is exactly how I would describe it! Beautiful flowers, majestic palms and vegetation all expertly orchestrated to show off the beauty of Barbados nature! It's even mystical at the end of the day a little bit of Eden. The host is charming and very very hospitable. Mr. Hunte's 150 year old house is lovely and very unique. Go for an afternoon of breathtaking beauty and peace! Mr. Hunte well done and many thanks for sharing your "gem of Barbados" with us!
This is my favorite place on earth. I'm so sincere about this. Anthony is the most charming, brilliant, & pleasant man. Go there, NOW! It's such an elegant experience & he has made finding his paradise, i mean gardens, so easy to find that I actually used his signs to navigate myself throughout the entire island. His signage is BETTER than the government's!
