Trains no longer run, except for one International train to Zagreb. Station is effectively abandoned.
While the station still has a ticket office, the staff there said no trains run, go around the corner and get the bus. Not sure why they even bother opening up the ticket office.
Looks like it was once a grand station, but it's certainly seen better days.response / report this review -

A big building, almost empty and abandoned inside, just a couple of cafees and two women waiting for customers in ticket sales (spoke English). We went down and checked the corridors and platforms - and felt totally surreal! Not one single human being there, not one single train, nothing! And we were in the capital city's main railway station
Our plan was to travel from Sarajevo to Mostar, trains go 2 times per day. During a city tour we asked from the local guide if we should use train or bus. She recommended bus - they are relatively new compared to trains, they have airconditioner and the journey time is the same, plus they run more frequently. In trains it is allowed to smoke and it is packed with local people (because it is cheap), lucky if you can have a seat. And the trains are really old, no AC or anything. It is said, that the journey from Sarajevo to Mostar by train is one of the most beautiful on earth - but the bus goes pretty much the same route, you can see the rails from the bus sometimes.
