Queeen Beatrix airport is the BESt airport in the entire continent (I think) the only plane I went on was southwest witch was going to Orlando and Miami sadly not anymore so how am I going to go to Florida without southwest?!
Medium size airport. Easy to navigate through. Finding a taxi outside the airport was a bit confusing but the staff were very friendly and helpful and helped us get to the right cabbie. Departing from here is another story. There are long lines up to get through customs. But there's lots of beautiful decor to check out if you have time and enjoy the last bits of a great island.
We booked a connecting flight through Aruba on our return to the US from Curacao. We landed with 1 hour 40 min until our connecting flight left.
As the previous reviewer noted, the process to depart this airport is unusually long. We brought only carry-on luggage and asked for an escort multiple times (we were assisted through one initial line and later denied as the attendant assured us we had enough time to make the flight). It was extremely frustrating to finally make it through endless security and customs lines, locate a Delta agent who called the gate, then run to the gate to find that the terminal was locked moments prior despite their notification that we were on our way.
3 hours is accurate - you will stand in lines for at least 2 hours without any bags to check.
Rented two vehicles without any issues. Great service, vehicles were in good shape, but they are expensive in comparison to other places. I rented two off road vehicles to find that they do not cover any damages if they are caused by going off road. Off road is considered any road that is not paved. Reality check
many of the roads are not paved!!! Ridiculous!
One of the best airports I have ever flown to. The Walkway from USA departures to customs is outside, which I loved leaving the country. Can’t wait to go again!
Nice, small airport. If you're here for the Holidays or Carnival, I'd recommend waiting a day, or two to fly out to avoid crowds.
Possibly the WORST airport known to man. Avoid flying out of this airport at all costs. Flew out 1/1/2018 and if we had not arrived 3 hours early, we would have missed our plane.
1. Over 1 hour waiting to check bags at American Airlines counter. I agent handling main cabin guests, which made up over 90% of people waiting in line and 1 for priority guests. Approximately 85 people waiting. When the priority line was more that 2 people, both agents called only priority, leaving the unfortunate guests in main cabin growing increasingly frustrated. When our bag was checked, AND Paid For, they did not take care of it, they handed it back to you to carry yourself for the remainder of the 3 hour ordeal.
2. Leaving the check-in area, we waited outside; in another hour long line, for our first of 3YES 3security checkpoints where we had to remove shoes, be scanned and re-assemble ourselves.
3. Had to drop our own bag for customs screening, pick it up and then guess which of 2 conveyor belts to toss it onto to hopefully get it to the correct airline; no representatives there.
4. Another passport.automatedreviewmachines slow and uncooperative
5. Final Customs interview with agents
6. Final screening of luggage and person.
Absolutely redundant, inefficient, waste of time and frustrating.
3 hours on our feet, in long lines, and absolutely no time to use the bathroom or purchase food before the 4 hour flight back home.
We loved Arubabeautiful people and environment, but we will NEVER return due to the absolutely asinine, redundant, inefficient and poorly managed airport experience.
People in the airport are nice, but in absolutely no hurry, even with the awareness of many disgruntled and stressed visitors.
My advice to travelers: AVOID VISITING ARUBA
My advice to Aruba Airport: fix your poorly run and non customer friendly airport experience. It leaves a foul taste and ruins the beauty of your island experience.
On the slower side of things compared to Western Airports, but that's to be expected - nobody is in a hurry on this island.
There's absolutely no place to charge your phone at the gates. There was a single outlet in the whole area and obviously it was occupied.
The bathroom facilities were horribly filthy.
Either than that, no problems going through this airport.
Really nice airport clearance and customs went quiet fast behind the US clearance you can find a wine bar, cafes, chinese restaurants and some tax free shops
Here is our experience for departure on a Saturday afternoon flight upon dropoff at US departures door. Airline checkin: for Southwest it took 5 mins as we did not check bags and used the self-serve kiosk to print boarding pass (BP). But even the counter service line was short and moved quickly. Other airlines had longer lines. Budget 30mins for this.
Beyond airline checkin expect the following lines and checkpoints, with time waiting as noted. Proceed to 1 of 2 lines for passport (PP) and boarding pass (BP) desk check, 15 mins in line. Then proceed to 1 of multiple lines for self-serve PP scan, 5 mins. Proceed to 1 of 2 lines for Aruban security station security, 15 mins. After this you will be in the main shopping and food court area (with Sbarros, sushi and other food and high-end shopping). Proceed to US gates, stopping for a quick PP/BP doorcheck (no line). Within this large room pick up any checked bags and proceed to 1 of many kiosks to answer customs questions and PP scan, 5 mins. (you will not be able to return to concessions area once entering this room). Take the printed kiosk slip and proceed to 1 of 2 lines for US Customs desk check, 10 mins. If you are not pulled off for further bag searching or questioning, proceed to 1 of 2 lines for US security check, dropping off checked bags before getting in line, 15 mins. After this you may proceed to gates. Total curb-to-gate time was 1.5 hours, includes walking and dressing time after security and a toilet visit. Be advised there is no TSA Pre-check so if youve been spoiled by that, be prepared to take off shoes, belt, liquids out, etc. TWICE. There are plenty of eating and shopping choices at the gate. Best bet is to get thru everything first (altho we ate at the excellent 14 BIS beforehand and had plenty of time). Lastly they changed our gate about 2 hrs before flight so pay attention to announcements.
Interesting airport. Be sure to give yourself an extra hour or two since they have you do security twice.
You have to understand that this is a small airport on a small islandthey're not going to have EVERYTHING. That being said, the prices for food etc. were kind of high, even for an airport. The service and people, however, were great! Friendly people!
In A Nutshell:
-Queen Beatrix International Airport is small, well of course you didn't a big airport on this, "One Happy Island".
-Moving through customs is average speed.
-They do offer "limited" flights to nearby Curaçao island.
Overall, it's an average airport.
I hope not to cross path with this airport again, grossly understaff and the system is not very well thought of. Be at least 3 hours early because the workers are not really in a hurry even if the queue is a mile long (a little exaggeration).
A small, comfortable airport with nice duty free shops.
Arrival process was quick and easy, remember you can fill out immigration information online to save time at the airport. Departures, meh, long lines for security so give yourself time. Decent facilities near the gate. You'll probably be taking a bus to your plane so boarding is a chaotic mad scramble.
The airport has been in the progress of modernizing and remodeling to make going through immigration easier and faster. There have been times where there are long lines upon arrival but hey, you're in paradise, relax. For departures to the U.S. you clear U.S. customers while in Aruba. This is nice because when you reach the U.S. you can claim your bags and go. The airport has free WiFi so you can surf while you wait.
great airport although some more connections to other parts of the world would come handy
Total nightmare! 2.5 hours from drop off to plane. Jet Blue said be at the airport 60 minutes in advance. Go with 60 minutes and you will not be on the plane. Two security lines of 100+ people plus. No one told us there is no real Jet Blue kiosk to sign in, no one told us there is no real Jet Blue gate just hang by the stairs, no one told us there were 2 security lines - 1 for Aruba and 1 for the US. I will never travel to Aruba again - the trip to through the airport takes as long as the flight!
The overall flow of the USA Departures is very complicated and confusing. You have to pick up your checked baggage multiple times from different carousels and transport it around the airport yourself-- aside from this, there are an ungodly amount of lines and checkpoints, none of which are near each other, recommend arriving at LEAST 4 hours early. Staff is almost useless and very unfriendly while you scramble your way around the airport. Once you finally reach your gate; there is NOWHERE near enough seating or space for all the people cramped into the terminal, we ended up seated in the floor outside of a club for the majority of our wait. Major renovations are needed given the flow of people that use the airport and some of the staff could use attitude checks. I won't even mention the alarm that was going off for 20 minutes-- before I finally boarded my plane and didn't have too hear it anymore.
