Keith (Jimmy) is a top guy guy and very helpful in looking after customers; i have 2 x Bmws and they look after both. They are great with their diagnosis and are reasonable on price. Good to support local

Took my X5M there for a full checkout and SouthernBM quickly identified some of the issues that required immediate attentions. Really appreciate the professionalism and the high level of customer service. Will bring all my BMWs there to service.

Have taken my 130i to Andrew and the guys at SouthernBM and they are awesome. They quote before doing any repairs and give you options based on things they find after an inspection based on your budget. Very knowledgable team that are obviously very passionate about BMW's - a good formula if you love your car and want to look after it. To marks Andrew, keep it up!

For ANYONE thinking about going to SouthernBM, please read this review first.
This is my first review on google, I feel compel to write something about my experience dealing with SouthernBM.
Back story - I own an 2007 E70 X5 V8 with 150k on the clock, she’s not new but she is spotless.
Bought the car as a demo and she has been a dream to own. As every BMW, the running cost of this car is not cheap but I never had a “jaw dropping” quote for any work done by BMW Canterbury (I am from Sydney) or from BMS AutoHaus (BMW specialist) over the years. Last month I had a major service done (Front brake, pad/rotors changed, all fluid and filters etc) had a full scan printed (7 pages) all codes listed with no faults. On the to-do list from BMS AutoHaus was -batt needed a closer look, an oil leak detected from the left side of the engine- which will be a 2 day job as access is a big issue on these engines. Labour will be extensive with an estimate of around 4-5k mark. This was going to be my biggest and most expensive work done to the car. But hey, its a 10yr old car and she’s part of the family.
Two weeks ago, we moved to Melbourne due to a family medical emergency. I drove the car twice from Sydney to Melbourne. 2000km later, I noticed a fair amount of oil in the driveway, didn’t want to take any risk and decided to get it fixed asap. SouthernBM was recommended to me by another BMW owner. Big mistake.
This is my experience with this company.
- Called them on Monday to book an appointment to identify the issue and possibly fix the problem
- They were very busy and only available the next week. Booking was made for the following Tuesday.
- Dropped the car and was very happy with Sean’s customer service.
- Left the car overnight to allow plenty of time to diagnose and identify the issue.
- Get a call the next day(Not Sean)- “Hi its about your X5, what can I say. We removed the under tray and there was oil EVERYWHERE, its a mess, we also found coolant, did the car give you any “Low coolant warning?” we cannot identify exactly where the leak is coming from but I can tell you that it will be a massive job to repair it.
- I told them that I was expecting a big bill and that I had no choice, how much?
“Umm we are looking around $10,000 to $16,000” because the engine must come out to know exactly where the oil is coming from”.
I was flabbergasted…. $10,000 to $16,000!!!!!
I told them not to touch the car and that I was coming to pick it up.
I arrived at SouthernBm still in shocked about the quote, and expected to be given a full detail of the extensive work needed on the car.
I was greeted with 3 or 4 photos of my under tray laying on the floor showing the spilled oil + a video of my exhaust showing smoke coming out. I was told that their were so many errors codes “too many to list” and basically this car was only good for the bin. (Again for me it was a big shock because I never had any issues with the car)
I took my car and went back home.
Sorry for this long review but the feeling I got from SoutherBM is typical of many money grabbing companies dealing with “luxury” cars, you drive a BMW, it will cost $10,000 to $16,000 to check and repair an oil leak. I feel that Southern BM is dedicated to their usual brand new BMW M4 owners with very deep pockets that want a new exhaust or new rims and a tune. But when it come to proper mechanical workmanship, big job, they will not even attempt to work on the car or even show a detail report, parts needed and the extensive labour breakdown unless you accept an out of this world quote.
The car will be fixed (not by them) and I will amend this review with the parts used and a complete breakdown of the cost and what was done. If I get a $10,000 to $16,000 bill I will personally apologise and remove this review.response / report this review -

A bunch of friendly enthusiasts doing what they love. Prices are reasonable for performance parts. Fitting performance parts for BMWs in Australia used to be cheaper if you import personally from overseas, but I think these guys have been working on it and nowadays it's cheaper to get them to do everything. Happy to support local business!

They left transportation cover on my air filter and overfilled oil by 0.5l. My engine is fitted to 4.2l of oil, they've put 5l. Also I had my radiator replaced, the job took them 5 days and costed me more than $2000 including spare parts.
Edit: read answer from owner and that sounded reasonable. Except of air filter wrap and a long repair time everything was pretty good.response / report this review -

Had my M4 fitted with spacers, eisenmann exhaust with an ESS tune. The difference in sound and midrange power is amazing. Couldnt be more pleased.

X5 brought in for installation of tow bar (cost $2500). Since then multiple instances of error codes related to rapid battery discharge. Further advice from Southern BM to replace battery ($700). Then multiple drive related fault codes resulting in a car that refused to travel more than 100m. Towed to Brighton BMW - 1 day of diagnostic testing ($450) with a final verdict that the electrics for the tow bar had been incorrectly wired into the drive BUS resulting in electrical/electronic faults - remedy: electrics disconnected. After $3650 I now have a working car with a non-working tow bar!!
