It's good, it could be amazing, but it's good enough. If you are staying in the area it's the best place to stay. I spend a weekend here and it was enjoyable. Our room was pretty tight but it had a personal balcony that two people could sit out and watch nature comfortably. It had a great view from our balcony. The food was hit and miss, but the breakfast with the poached eggs I thought was pretty good. A very warm welcome and nice owners, we had nice chats. It has an entertainment room which will suit families with a TV and a pool table. In general it's quite good, if they wanted to add some extra flair to some touches in the room it would be good. They made some mistakes with a large dinner we had where portion sizes were out of control, some quite small, and others which were so large they'd be a double serve under normal circumstances. I would recommend it, it's a nice place with some wonderful countryside.
Friendly staff. Room is a bit small. Great service. Becuz its an old property its nosiey at night if next room is talking or when tv is on. Overall. Great place.
We loved it here, the beds were super comfy. The staff were amazing, even getting us a lift to our function. Breakfast was included in our booking and the variety was good. The grounds are stunning with an abundence of kookaburras hanging around. Highly recommended and we will def going back.
Beautiful little hotel up in the yarra valley. Rooms are nice but really the views is what you’re there for. Staff there are extremely friendly, and the breakfast is good too. Great for a weekend gateway or a place to stay overnight if you’re up here to attend a wedding or something nearby.
On rhe posirive side the owners and staff are lovely as is the setting alongside the Yarra River. Unfortunately, although the rooms are ok the walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything going on in adjoining rooms. The lack of a bar fridge is a major problem and the hallway light which was very bright stayed on all night keeping the room too light for sleep. We also had a rather average experience in the on-site restaurant, ordering steak which was so inedible we sent it back and went elsewhere. I'm not sure if the cook was just having a really bad night but for $32 I expected a reasonable cut of meat, not stewing steak Overall I was pretty disappointed.
The staff were so attentive and friendly
Made our kids feel welcome. There was a 10 week old calf grazing outside the property which made it extra fun for the kids. Amazing rooms!
Had a lovely charcuterie plate to share with my partner in the cosy lounge. Great friendly service too. A lovely relaxing experience. Only downer was that no drinks were offered
This place is so beautiful. Build in 1900s, 24 rooms, beautifully placed on the back of the Yarra River, beautiful restaurant, wonderful staff and really nice atmosphere. They are very accommodating. Must come for weekend stays more often.
Absolutely sensational food! The Scotch Fillet was the best I have had in a long time, the Jus was incredible. The Ragout was full of flavour and so fresh. The Slow Braised Lamb just melted in your mouth. Very reasonably priced for the exceptional quality of the food. Table service was very polite and attentive. If you're in the area give Oscar's a try.
Great atmosphere, wonderful hosts, picturesque grounds open fires. Loved it
The food was fine and probably a 4/5 however the overall experience was pretty average. Firstly we booked over a week in advance however when we got there we were placed on the worst table and told we could not move yet the restaurant was never full and when we left the tables we prefered were still unoccupied. I was also unimpressed by the limited menu that only had 1 vegetarian option of mixed veggie. Prior to booking i checked out the menu and was impressed so was quite disappointed when there was only 4 mains available on the night. Wouldnt come back.
Friendly staff, great menu and pleasant setting
We went as a pair for lunch on the balcony at the back of the restaurant, overlooking the grass area and Yarra river. The oak gives ample shade and breeze for a nice aspect during the lazy summer afternoons. The service was standard yet the food spoke volumes in another language; the language of taste. Most of the food and wine is of the region which adds to Oscar's more subtle qualities. Suited to people who are looking to enjoy quality food and meditate in nature's ambience afterwards.
Fantastic new owners! Beautiful setting and fantastic hospitality. A true asset to the 'Valley' community.
Thank you so much for your support.
