At first the place looked great, clean and tidy but it was all down hill from there. The 3 bedroom apartment we stayed in was filthy, empty pizza boxes and mentos wrappers from the last people, glasses covered in sticky residue and finger prints, plates wet in the cupboard and not clean. The table was covered in crumbs from whatever was last eaten there, all remotes had no batteries in them, floor hadn't been vacuumed. Explained all this to the manager who said house keeping had gone over it, I can sympathize with him because when you employe someone to do a job you expect it done properly. We got offered a much nicer and clean 2 bedroom apartment as compensation. I was with my partner and our 3 children, unfortunately all the kids had to sleep in the one room but it was a much better option than what we were in.
Awesome place. Great rooms. Good meals. Very friendly
Based on the accommodation: great location, decently sized rooms and absolutely lovely staff. :)
Only reason I have given it 4 stars, is because there are no sound proof walls.
There are two levels of Units, we stayed on the floor level and constantly heard doors sliding open, water running and even conversations at some points when we were trying to sleep.
Not sure if we are the only ones who see an issue with this, but yeah, was just a bit too noisy for us.
Overall, it is good for those wanting to explore Bendigo at waking distance and having a pub pretty much right at your doorstep is a bonus! :)
Great tasting food with quick service times. Would highly recommend.
Excellent bar meals and service
Walked in at about 4pm for an early dinner. Food and service was amazing.
My daughter's allergy requirements were handled well with variation of an existing dish.

Terrible, 0 out of 5 stars!
I would like to say I could have reviewed the food there, but we were VERY rudely kicked out before ordering our meals, hence the terrible star rating. I was in Bendigo on a work trip, and had brought my wife and 2 young kids along. We have a very picky 6 year old son, so we decided to get some KFC (his favorite) as a special treat while the rest of us got a good hotel style meal. Seeing as Bendigo is still a country town, and a sense of mateship and understanding would prevail, I thought we would bring my sons KFC into the establishment, thinking it would probably be ok, but could work with the management if not (eat outside with him, finish if off out the back, as he had already started in the car etc). Once we were seated, a female staff member walked over to us, waving her hands like we carrying the plague, and she said "Nope, no, we can't do this, we just can't do this!", and proceeded to start packing up my sons food. I thought something severe was going on that I had missed due to the excessive reaction she had, but she was referring to my sons KFC, and the inability for the National Hotel to accommodate this travesty. Now, I understand that such a thing might be against company policy, as previously mentioned, and that's fine (I have issue with the principle, but I understand). She was not interested in discussing the matter, working with us, maybe he could have eaten outside with me for example. My 6 year old boy was stunned, and started to blame himself that his family could not get the dinner they wanted. Lucky we (my wife and I) straightened that one out with him immediately, and explained that while the hotel might have that policy, their response was extremely overboard, and the issue was not approached with respect, care, understanding, and a "work with us" attitude. We would have been happy to work with the National on this one.
I rang Kyle (the manager at the time) and explained how rudely we had been treated, and he hid behind the company policy, without explanation as to the RUDE execution of that policy, or dismissive attitude of the staff.
I travel a lot for work, and scout hotels and eating locations for the staff we have. Well, fair enough to say, with our long term contract coming up (multiple staff in Bendigo very regularly, year round) with the new local health precinct, I have added the National Complex on our Black List, of places never to stay or eat at, simply because they could not address a 6 year old boy with respect, and then work with the family in question (alternatives to this travesty) to deliver a decent and dignified service.
That 1 issue has cost the National Complex 100 fold, in the turnover it could have received from our company, with respect to the $150 we were going to spend there that night.
Well done teamwell done.
Good facilities but everything not open and available
This hotel is clean and comfortable. Some furniture was worn but overall the room was in good condition.
Breakfast was very average, we went elsewhere the second morning.
The major downfall was that on the second night we returned to our room (around 8pm) to find it reeking of cigarette smoke. Being a Saturday night it was quite busy and other guests/visitors were smoking outside their rooms - that's where the ashtrays are. There were also a group of people smoking near the rear door of the room. The doors just didn't seal enough to keep the smell out and it was like they weren't even closed at all. The smell was overwhelminly disgusting.
My suggestion to the owner would be to move the ashtrays to a designated smoking area away from the doors.
(Note: The smell was much worse when the fan in the bathroom was turned on. Not sure if that was due to other guests smoking in their rooms and a connected ventilation system).
Pictures listed here on google aren't much like the room where we stayed - at all!
Staff did not ask how stay was on checkout otherwise I would have mentioned this all then.
