We were on a private wine tour and stopped in for lunch (pre booked). Because there were 11 of us we were told that we would have to have a 2 course set menu. To begin with we were told to be seated unfortunately at two separate tables. We ended up moving the tables together ourselves. Not sure why the tables were not put together prior to our arrival as we had booked well in advance.
We were shown a menu but it was for choosing wine only as we had to have the set menu. The communication was poor as to what we were getting. After a couple of times asking some of us asked for the vegetarian option.
Course one came out and it was plonked on the table and we were told it was sharing food. Basically vegetables. This was tasty. Difficult to share as we got huge slabs of zucchini and pumpkin etc which had to be cut with a spoon to be shared. There was a LOT of beetroots as well. Quite delicious but hard to share. Second course came and this was actually a replica of the first course with a large head of cauliflower. This was supposed to be roasted but it looked to have been boiled and then torched to make it look roasted. Zero flavor and the tiniest amount of sauce. The non vegetarians got a huge wheel of pork belly. It was grey and fatty and only partially crispy. The cauliflower which was meant to be the vegetarian main was shared with everyone. There was also leaves and truckloads of beetroots again. Beetroot beetroot beetroot! We asked why there was so much beetroot and were told it was in season and from their garden. Cauliflower is not in season at the moment so if there is a policy of cooking seasonally then why not make the whole menu seasonal?
Now I would say that beetroot, cauliflower and pork are all quite polarizing so what if you don’t actually like any of these???
We had to buy fries as well just to get something nice in our bellies.
For $50 a head including wine it was most disappointing. Some of us had to buy a cookie as we left as we were hungry still.
Perhaps a review of the menu is in order. or a review on the set menu policy for groups with 10 or more.
Extremely disappointed and will be telling everyone I know not to bother eating at Jacobs Creek.response / report this review -

When leisurely touring the Barossa, Jacob's Creek is a great destination in all kinds of weather. Beautiful inside and out, it's easy to find a place to sit and relax with a sharing board from the cafe and a glass of wine. Jacob's Creek Shiraz is a family favourite for over 30 years now and we loved seeing how much they've grown. Now as a Visitor's Center you can hire bikes, play games on the lawn, tour, taste and much more. He loved the wine tasting - I loved the gift shop. Both of us are keen to go back.
