Fantastic location, not too far from town, but far enough away that it's out of sight. Lovely set, self contained cottages with comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere. Nice sized spa and shower with a dryer as well. Reasonably priced. Maybe one thing to add is complimentary breakfast or the option of dinner?

The gas fireplace does not put out any discernable heat. This leaves the front kitchen / lounge area cold. The warming of this place is really poorly designed making use of TV and kitchen uncomfortable. Bathroom / laundry I like. Warmer days and summer is probably better to stay. Location is really nice.
    My reply to yours below:
There are dumb owners. The air conditioner is undersized for the room as you would have been told. It heats the bed area nicely. If you read my review - it said the front area was cold. You know as well as I do the gas heater at the front looks nice but is inefficient & has very little heat.

Great little cottage with everything we needed for a weekend away. Friendly owners who suggested restaurants to try. Warm and cosy.

Stayed in one of the cottages 4 weeks back. When I arrived back in Melbourne following our stay I realised I had left a pair of boots in the room. An email was sent to Robert asking if he had noticed them lying about. I received an email back saying there was damage to the doona cover and unless we paid the bill - apparently $70 at the dry cleaner - he wouldn't send them back. I was suspicious as 6 days had passed since our stay and nothing was mentioned. I took his word for it and provided my credit card details for payment. Should also mention there was no evidence of this damage, nor was a receipt from the dry cleaner provided.

2 weeks passed and I still hadn't received the boots. I sent another email asking if they'd been posted and he responded with "haven't had time, might send them next Tuesday". Was frustrated by this point as it seemed he had no intention of sending them back. When I vented my frustration he responded with "that's funny coming from a pig". I had done the right thing by Robert but he wasn't prepared to do the right thing by me.

3 weeks passed and I mentioned this matter was going to be handed to the police unless I had the boots in my possession by weeks end. The boots arrived a few days later. When I picked them up from the post office I was told that the postage cost was to be covered by me. After explaining the situation the manger of the post office was kind enough to release the package without payment.

Halls Gap is stunning, however, you decide to stay there make sure you avoid this accomodation at all costs. Robert is rude and lacks people skills.

Stayed at Heatherlie Cottages for one night (initially booking 2 nights) during late December 2009.

After entering the room, my partner found a spider the size of my hand upon the air-conditioning unit and started freaking out. Searched the room for Mortein (flyspray) or something to help, but nothing was provided. I called Robert (owner/operator of Heatherlie Cottages).

He was heavily drunk, and thought the problem with the spider was one of the funniest things he'd ever heard. After belittling me, he told me to get a broom from the cupboard and chase the spider out of the room.

I unsuccessfully tried to get the spider out, the spider just ran behind the air-conditioning unit, then behind a curtain right beside the bed head.

I called Manager (Robert) again to try to change rooms, he became agitated, but agreed for us to change to an unoccupied adjacent room.

The Manager (Robert) called back 20 minutes later to tell us we would need to go back to the original room for the following night. My partner was not very keen on this, and we said we were not comfortable to go back to that room.

    Then he said:

"So you're going to f&%k me around. Well, I might just come around to the room now with a few of my mates and we can get you out tonight."

After I CALMED HIM DOWN, I said that we will just stay the one night only, and be on our way, and I expect my second night's room charge would need to be refunded.

He then continued to swear at me and refused to refund our second night (at $200), saying he would charge us $330 because of the inconvenience we caused him, and refund us only $70.

I was not happy with this, however this is what was agreed, with the last thing he said to me being:

"You had better not be there when I come to clean the room in the morning."

Two and a half weeks later, the Manager won't take my calls and has still not refunded my $70.

I would obviously never stay here again, and urge you not to stay here too.

Disgraceful management, I have never experienced anything even remotely this bad before.

Please, for the sake of a happy holiday, DON'T STAY HERE.

I would recommend Heatherlie Cottages to anyone wanting to have a romantic and fully relaxing break. If you don't feel like eating out then you have all the conveniences you could ever need including your own personal BBQ on your own verandah where you can watch the deer and other wildlife in the area. Three times we have stayed there with the intention of going out for a romantic meal but once you are inside you dont want to leave as the ambience of the place takes over and you start to feel relaxed straight away. You can even watch T.V. or one of the DVD'S left for your convenience from the spa or just listen to music from the stereo! No expense has been spared in furnishing the cottages and the comforts within. We will definantly go back!
