We ordered the veal snitzel which was very disappointing. The salad was just plain iceberg lettuce and potato salad tasted like it was waterlogged. Horrible!!

This is one of those places that you step into and feel as if you have been transported to another time and place. It is a time and place that features tasty food and interesting drinks, but remarkably poor service. Perhaps this was a known feature of early twentieth century Viennese coffee houses. If so, I offer a commendation for authenticity, but can't recommend that anyone go with the intention of actually eating and drinking.
After we were shown to a table, we sat waiting for someone to take our order for twenty minutes. After we asked to order twice, it still took ten minutes for the waiter in question to actually arrive to take the orders. On a positive note, the meals and drinks all arrived in good time. Complements to the kitchen and the gent tending the bar. We then thought we might have some more drinks and a dessert, but our table remained full of dirty dishes and our signals for service from the waiting staff were all ignored.
We essentially gave up. We paid the bill at the counter and found a pub that was more than happy to help us with some coffee, desserts and a few glasses of wine.

Rude staff that not only do not consider dietary restrictions but lie about the content of their food and mock patrons. Very strongly suggest any other cafe in town.

We are so lucky to have this amazing coffee house in Castlemaine, it is an authentic Austrian coffee house, don't bring your kids unless they are extremely well behaved 🤜🏿🤛🏻
