Great historical experience. Loved it.
An interesting place to visit with an excellent tour guide, Christine.
We took a guided tour. The guide was passionate about the building and history, and was able to tell us about original research he and the proprietors had done on the building, inmates and town.
Best spot in Castlemaine for a weekend beer and burger, awesome view, great atmosphere. As a photographer I've had the pleasure of shooting at this site which is quite cool, really love some of the features for portraiture and weddings! Seriously consider booking it for wedding photography!
Love this place! Great food, gorgeous fires that kept me toasty, and friendly staff! The coffee yum!!!
GF mud cake is delicious. It's also dairy free and refined sugar free. So so so good 😌. Excellent value for money too. Go treat yourself.
Most dreadful place in christendom an appalling place. Don't know how people can think it nice. Perfect place for trumplestiltskin and his mates. Tony Abbott would find it a home away from home
Good place nice viewsan amazing to be on a sunny daystaff is very friendly, it's built in a prison castle so can go for prison tour as well.
I would like to food options there
Great views from outdoor seating. A bit pricey but very good location and friendly staff.
Stunning views, fantastic service, meals were superb. Definitely a place to visit
Love it here. It has a unique telaxed feel about it. Overlooking the town of Castlemaine there is lovely indoor area in the old gaol, and an open spacious outdoor area as well as an outdoor bar. The food is delicious.
Dreadful signage. Didn't know where to enter or buy tickets from! Just happened to be someone who looked like a cook from the cafe' wandering passed us & saw that we looked a little lost & told us to buy our tickets from the girls in the cafe'. Seems to be more aimed at patronage for the cafe' & evening entertainment or functions. A bit sad really, as it has amazing heritage & should still be run as a regular tourist attraction. Inside was mostly amazing, but sad to see so much either locked up, the jail cells were being used as storage rooms, blocked off or set up for something else. Very disappointing in many ways, it has so much potentionalin the gaol itself. It wasn't always obvious where & where not you could go. You get an eery sense of what it would have been like as a prisoner (to a degree) back then (mid 1800's etc.). The prisoners main exercise yard was lovely, considering (with fruit trees planted there). Took lots of photo's. I am always amazed at the architecture of these gorgeous buildings. Still worth a look.
