Really good service.
My husband's hunger grew, and we were standing near the Royal Oak Hotel. He just wanted a steak and chips. Easy enough - a basic pub meal.
We walked in and despite being the only patrons during the weekend lunch time (warning sign) we explained exactly what we wanted. Basic steak. No sauces, no additions. Basic chips. Easy as can be. We took our seats in the Beer Garden under the shade of the sails.
The steak arrived and we tucked-in.. Oh, wait a minute! That bit tasted "funny". Another bite, spat out. No, don't eat this, this isn't right. We ate the chips and sadly got up and gave the plate back to the kitchen. We explained the steak wasn't right, and it all went down hill from there.
The Royal Oak is one place where the customer is not right. We were not looking for a free "meal", and we certainly weren't looking for a fight about it. I tried to explain that I didn't think the meal was worth the $19 we paid for it, and we were asked to leave. They were rude and aggressive and we left with an empty stomach, a funny taste in our mouths and $19 poorer for the experience.
I write this so that others will be warned! Enjoy your holiday at Port Fairy - don't visit the Royal Oak Hotel for a pub meal.
