Cute, cosy place perfect for late night drink or a date. Tap beer could be more varied but in general a great drinks list. Nowhere near enough smoke machine.

This a downer but I'm going to be. I like the place I just can't stand the arrogance a couple of staffs. High Ego not even sure if I am describing it right. If you are reading this(the person behind the bar), it's ok to work behind a bar after 5 when everyone is enjoying the sun/summer.

I had a very positive impression of this place, so it's really disappointing and unwelcoming when the staff doesn't let a paying customer stay because they "don't allow laptops here after six". A rule that isn't to be seen anywhere in the cafe/bar or their sites. If this is a real "rule", which I doubt it is, it has to be communicated so people don't suddenly feel like they are being chased out of this place. It's absolutely not something you tell someone after they've bought several beverages.
Thought this place would be nice to hang out at, regardless if you came in groups of friends or by yourself to be in your own little headspace (to write, read, draw etc). Guess I was wrong.response / report this review -

This is a great hipster cafe which you expect to find in Fitzroy. Come here for coffee or a few drinks late at night and you'll have a great time. Great music, comfy couches, amazing retro interior!

It's a fecking staple. Comfy, easy, relaxed, people who hang out here are generally really easy going. Slight hipster tang these days but what doesn't have that.

I needed a place to grab a beer and write. Blackcat was perfect. They serve some basic wraps and rolls which works for someone looking for a convenient snack with your drink.

Lively atmosphere. Staff is happy and very friendly. Coffee tasted good. The avocado toast with dukkah is simple but awesome! Will visit again.
