We recently contracted with APA to distribute flyers in letterboxes in various suburbs including Chipping Norton. A resident of that suburb subsequently called and said our flyers were thrown in her red bin. I retrieved about 300 flyers, took photos and wrote to this organisation at senior management level. I was told by phone by the sales rep that the staff member involved was no longer working there. I did not receive a written reply to my note. Of concern too was that the GPS maps provided purported to show the distribution was complete where the flyers were in-fact discarded in the bin. They have refused to provide any refund. Regrettably I have no confidence in this organisation and will not be using them again.

If you'd like to support worker exploition, then feel free to continue passing on your projects to this company. But I, for my part, would not be able to sleep well at night anymore. False promises and a nice little system for not having to pay minimum wage are an essential part for working there as a walker. Those are the guys that actually distribute your flyers. Being promised not more than 20 kms a day, you might just find yourself walking almost double that. Although it is reimbursed a bit, it does not actually cover the amount of extra work you do. You might just end up working for less than 9 $ an hour. And now, all of you check your quotes and wonder whether the amount you pay for these services justify the amount the walkers are paid. My guess is no.

I am not at all surprised reading that often enough flyers do not reach their destined recipients, but are found tossed or not found at all. The high level of frustration of the walkers probably explains why the motivation to carry out work is not as high as it would be. But if you're honest, would you do your job properly if you were paid less than half of what you deserve?

So save these extra dollars when placing your orders with APA, if your conscience allows it. Maybe you'll be lucky to have a hard working walker or maybe even one who has his first day. Then you might be lucky enough to have all your flyers where you want them to be. Otherwise, I would seriously considering investing a few extra dollars in any other company which may have a fairer system.
