Mainly tourists, but still a very fun place to visit. Located in a wonderful 14th century cellar with vaulted brick ceilings. Food was good and the staff was friendly. Music from accordian and violin was lovely, although pushed for tips a bit hard. Nonetheless, added to the experience rather than detracting from it.
I think some of the reviews are a bit harsh. Yes it is very cheesy but the food and atmosphere are pretty good. I'm sure I still owe the musicians a tip for a really frantic medley of British pop songs in which the fiddler snapped his bow. You don't get that at Figmuller
Alright, for all the tourists: you will rarely find native Viennese here. Why? First: too many tourists. The place is nice and cool in summer, but cold and draughty in winter. The food is good, but not great, and the portions are sub-standard for the expenses. Read: you pay a lot for a little food.
Also, the place is booked even on off-season weeknights, and getting a group bigger than four in without booking is nearly impossible. The service is actually not bad as such - it just seems that there are too many guests for too little personnel, meaning that the wait times between ordering, serving and getting the check are atrocious.
So, should you go there? If you are a tourist, don't care for wait time and money, want to tip musicians that play the Danube Waltz and "Wiener Blut" over and over, and are not too hungry, by all means, go there. If you want to have more (and better) food for the same amount or less, go somewhere else.
Great atmosphere, great food and great service! We found this place randomly and could not have been more pleased. Very authentic 😊
Really loved this place, don't be out off trying to find your way in! You need to head down some stairs which look like the entrance to some flats
Great Austrian food, delicious schnitzel and strudel. Good beer and wine selection! Live accordian and violin music Very friendly service and an English menu available Recommended!
Very slow service. The god was fine though
Good, large schnitzel, interesting decoration, decent service.
In the basement of a very old building.good food, good service..
Mediocre food, mediocre service. Good interiour.
We have visited after Figlmuller nearby was full and free place for two not in sight.
The restaurant is located downstairs. Street behind your back and its to your right and when inside the house, go downstairs left and just keep walking down the stairs until you reach the restaurant.
We visited on Tuesday evening and it was almost empty. Just 4 people and 2 of us. Not usually a good sign. The waiters chatted together (ok, I get it) and the music was quite loud. German language volkslieder.
The waiters came to our table few minutes after they noticed us. Asking us what we'd like to drink. We ordered a beer, hoping it'll be from draft. But unfortunately just bottled.
Then we ordered schnitzel with potato salad and schweinbraten. Extremely mediocre foods, i'd say maybe under average.. Quite disappointing, to be honest.
Although the waiters were polite, somehow they were also cocky and felt annoyed that they were interrupted.
I wouldn't want to visit here anymore. If the food was better, I'd let go the service quality .
One of the well-known "Heurigen" restaurants in Vienna. Very inviting place, often crowded, reservation is recommended. Typical Viennese cuisine and friendly staff.
Nice atmosphere, we were there early in the evening. Already busy but neat and fast service. Food was good!
A very special restaurant, it is located inside an underground. A very special experience, but inside is too hot and doesn't have a good air ventilation. The food is so so.
The place is nice but the waitresses are definitely not. Super bad service! Not coming back for sure!
Are you receiving a visit from abroad and don't know where to take them? Here they can see the under-grounds of Vienna while having a bite!
Very nice decoration!
Also, they offer live music (a group of 2-3 musicians playing the violin)
Not my first time in this restaurant but very disappointed by my last visit.
Especially the bad service (unfriendly waiter, long waiting time) struck me.
Plus normal debit cards are not accepted (only credit cards).
You will easily find better places with better food and service!
