This is one of the worst hospitals anywhere in Europe and I am including Eastern Europe. That should say it all!

This place gets 1 star, because I wouldn't be able to post otherwise. They would have to try really hard to improve in order to actually be deserving of it.

I went to this hospital about 4 times and each time it was a bloody nightmare. The waiting times are beyond absurd. When I went to their surgery department, I had to wait for about 4 hours until I was let in only to talk to this imbecile of a doctor for 5 minutes who told me that I just had to go home and get some rest. On another occasion, a friend had to bring me in to the emergency room, because I suffered from constant dizziness and spontaneous fainting. Keep in mind that I was in no condition to even talk, so he did all the talking for me, because he knew my situation. The doctor rudely asked him to keep his mouth shut, because I am a "big boy" and should be able to speak for myself. I tried and did indeed finally manage to explain what was happening, although it should have been obvious to anyone daring to call himself a doctor. He chuckled and said something like "see? you just have to want to, then you can do it. You can speak for yourself". He then had a nurse place an IV (to this day I don't know what the hell for) and when it was all done (I wasn't feeling any better) I was sent home and told to get some rest. Another time, also at the ER, I actually fainted with a number of doctors and nurses around. Other patients had to pick me up and put me in a chair, because those cretin employees would not move a muscle. Another time, at the reception, my girlfriend asked the woman there how we could get to some department or other (I think it was the first visit there) and she just lashed out at my girlfriend for having asked her in English and said that she wouldn't tell her anything unless she asks in German. I could have asked her in German, if, again, I was in any condition to interact with people. I collapsed again, at the reception, and, again, no hospital employee did anything to help me.

I think that the longest I had to wait to see a doctor was something over 6 hours at this place. Mad, just mad!

The only person working there who was indeed friendly was a visiting resident doctor, through some exchange program I assume, from some other country. Otherwise, you could very well die in front of the doctors and they would just call up your relatives to complain, if that.

I suggest you avoid this place at any cost. If you can afford it, get yourself a private insurance and skip any medical institution that has any connection with the state, because you're just going to prolong your misery.

Waiting there for so many hours, I can confirm what other reviewers are saying. Pretty much everyone is treated like garbage. The staff couldn't care less, if you paid them to not give a f***.

The place should either be shut down on privatized, really.

What a crappy hospital! I don't know why I pay for healthcare that much in Austria, if the waiting time on saturday is more than 5 hours!

I just walked in and asked at the information if an STD, STI test is possible. The guy very disrespectfuly, asked me "was ist das?" After I explained to him he just waved his had laughed and said no. (This conversation was in german, and I have Austrian social insurance). Great job! On the side of this event this is a very well organized hospital with friendly and very good staff. I really dont understand how this guy landed at the information.

This is the biggest hospital in Vienna, but it is very well organized and if you just follow the signs you will find what you are looking for. I gave birth to my daughter there and I am grateful to the experienced, proffesional and friendly staff.

Don't want to give it 1star, since it was my first experience, but this is worth a review. The guy at the emergency acceptance was so rude, that eventually, I went back home! I was there because of a previously attested tonsillitis, was not able to speak, so I handed over my mobile to him with couple of sentences written about my condition. He said "I'm not gonna read. If you want sth, then speak to me". Ok so I tried to explain him, why I was there. And he shouted at me, why I'd be coming to this hospital and not another one, that I'd need to wait maybe for 5 hrs and that I'm stupid. I asked him to measure my temperature. It was 38.1. anyway. This introduction was enough, I was so shocked, that I didn't fill out my form and went home. Next day I went to another hospital and they took perfect care of me so far! I might get a surgery tmr. Definitely gonna avoid akh in the future! I'm sure it's not so easy in a huge hospital, and I'm also sure, that not everyone is like this guy. But the atmosphere at the emergency was not nice! Very very bad ! I waited 3 hours ! I was vomiting and also diahrrea but nobody seems to care ! Very disspointed ! If you are sick , stay home because it is better !!

This is the biggest and busiest hospital in Austria and you can of course not expect it to be cozy and familiar Altough once you get up the stations it does not feel so giant anymore. All the people I met working there are professional and caring. There is always a specialist in case of complications. My thanks to all the doctors, nurses and assisting personnel. You are doing a good job!

I accompanied a friend to the Notfall (emergency) part of the hospital. It was a nightmare. We stayed inside for 8 hours. She had an insect bite, she was sick and we were worried the bite caused something. In the long waiting we hear and so everything: after a patient screamed a doctor said so loud so everybody could hear "unfortunately we don't have ELECTROSHOCK any more".
The same patient was tortured there in many ways: she asked to go home, the personal did not allow her, without explanations; she asked what was happening to her but nobody told her; she asked to go to toilet and she was accompanied by a male security guard. The college security guard said loud so everybody could hear (but in German so that the English speaking patient couldn't understand) HAVE FUN WITH HER. Another patient helped her to get in contact with her family, which came to pick her up and saved her from more tortures and humiliations.
Stains of blood were on the floor.
Another patient ran away screaming scared at some point. I don't know what happened to her. We saw even more terribleness in our 8 hours there. But I don't want to write too much.
Concerning my friend: she got her blood checked (the doctors were NOT ABLE to make a blood check, they missed the vain, everything was full of blood then, her clothes the chair were she was sitting). At the end they told us she is not sick. She shuld go home . The day after, still sick, she went to a house doctor: an infection caused by insect bite was diagnosed. A part from brutal, heartless and disrespectful the staff is also INCOMPETENT.
