Great castle! The place is surrounded by the rivers Dzoraget and Urut (Miskhana). Thus, it is guarded by the nature from three sides, making it a great place for protection! Inside the castle you can see two medieval baths the clay tubes of which are still visible. Also, you can see a medieval building which used to be a place where meetings were held. It was transformed into a mosque. Now it is a church. But you can still see the mihrab inside which shows the direction to Mecca! Must-see site if you are travelling in these marvelous parts of Armenia!
P.S. There used to be a secret passageway in this castle. It was leading the people down to the river! Also, don't miss the bridge on Urut river.
One of the biggest fortresses in Armenia
Not much left of the fortress city. But it's so quiet here, you really feel like in a parallel universe.
I love this place. Gorgeous gorge of Dzoraget river and old ruins make you feel zoned out of the world.
Quiet set of ruins that's not crowded yet well maintained. Great views of the rivers below, and the rustic fort makes for great exploring. Well worth the drive.
