For the price you pay the resort is amazing! Rooms and property are very dated but very clean. Buffet is small but it's nice because you don't get the exact same thing every night like the large chains. At first I was worried and then I realized it's actually better because you don't eat the same thing night after night for 7 days. The staff was wonderful and went above and beyond. They really made the trip memorable. The beach is AMAZING and definitely one of the best compared to neighboring beaches. I've never seen water so blue and I hope it's not my last time either. I wouldn't hesitate to book this resort again.
Don't do it. You get what you pay for. So outdated and rooms are a hole in the wall just enough space for one , Staff was friendly and beach was gorgeous but the locals ruin it they're always trying to sell you something or give you a massage.. 2 Stars for that amazing beach but that's about it.. should have done way more research than I did but hey it was a last-minute trip.
I stayed there for 7 nights and I have to say, it was a nice stay.
Lots of people complain about the rooms (since they are a little dated) but I mean come on, you're not supposed to stay in the room the whole entire visit, you just sleep and store your stuff in there. Other than the rooms, the resort is great!
Cons: Rooms, You also have to reserve fancy restaurants (buffet not included) like the Italian or Mexican one early in the morning to book for the NEXT day.
Pros: Great entertainment, friendly staff, close to "Jolly Harbour", the beach is long and beautiful with clear turquoise water and is one of the most beautiful beaches in Antigua out of all of them (365) (especially for nice pictures).
Beautiful beach, very friendly staff. Our stay here was great. Everybody goes out of their way to make sure you have a great stay and time. Highly recommended activities are the Shirley Heights trip and a day out on a boat snorkelling. Considering it is a 3 star hotel I cannot say anything negative but a suggestion to the resort would be to maybe look at considering redoing the bathrooms in the bedrooms as they are starting to wear thin and look old. Would highly recommend to anybody interested. I would definitely come back again!
The Jolly Beach Hotel and Spa is an all inclusive and buzzing Hotel and Spa. Situated close to Jolly Harbour. Castaways and Jolly Castle directly on a long beach with water spots and other activities available.
I really enjoy the "All you can eat" buffet meals (The food always wins), the wide and varied selections adds to the appeal. The large pool and swim-up bar is a good feature.
The scenic gazebo overlooking the pool, beach and a spectacular scenic view is a setting for many destination weddings. The sunset seems golden in color and when the sandy Shoreline is transformed into that Golden color it is quite breathtaking.
There are conference and event areas on site, the Hibiscus room being the most well known. The adjoining Restaurant really takes the events to w higher level.
The hotel staff are quite helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating and puts their guests at ease allowing for an enjoyable and well spent time. We had a great time and look forward to returning.
Pros: Very large in terms of size and has good food, meeting area and excellent beach and gym nearby.
It has two pools and they are easy to find and use.
Cons: Seems a bit understaffed for such a large Resort.
There was no WIFI signal at certain points of the compound and at other areas it was extremely weak.
Excellent quality for a 3 star resort. Poolside entertainment can be noisy during the afternoon. Lovely mile long beach. Room dated but clean and everything worked. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. I don't know how they find such h food people. Four restaurants to choose from with very good quality food and drink.
We went to Jolly Beach Resort for rest, relaxation and rejuvenation; we got exactly that and far more! The resort is located on an excellent and large beach front property . . . very refreshing. We had substantial and delicious meals in wonderful dining venues that are steps away from the ocean . . . amazingly beautiful scenes from sunrise to sunset! The service throughout the resort was quite respectful. We enjoyed good, night-time entertainment. Loved the vintage, Caribbean bedroom furniture! Yes, and of course we liked the warmth and friendliness of the Antiguan people.
the place is outdated but they offer friendly customer service and liquor that's not watered down. The resort has 2 pools and a beautiful beach front perfect for pictures. It also has a lovely entertainment crew. The food is absolutely fresh! The resort is clean at all times. It's also safe to leave the resort.
Definitely would return! The good: Beautiful clean beach excellent for walking, cool turquoise ocean excellent for swimming, good food/drinks esp. grill (jerk chicken!), good shower water pressure and hot water, friendly hardworking staff. Daily bug fogging kept mosquitoes low.The bad: Hotel seemed over-crowded. Not enough shaded areas in pool area or on the beach (they are working on adding more). Staff trouble keeping up in the buffet restaurant with seating, serving drinks, and keeping food available. Room small and old.
Superb value. Great location. Lovely staff. Place is a little dated at the moment but is being gradually improved due to new owners
The best place a out this is the mile long white sandy beach with no built up areas, it's truly a tropical paradise. All inclusive hotel good with wide choice of food and restaurants with lovely fish restaurant called Lydia's right on the beach. Only down side is hotel a bit dated having been built in the 70's but the beach more than makes up for it.
I stayed at this resort in November, 2017. One of the worst accommodations I ever stayed. Poorly maintained and very poor customer service. The room was outdated and in poor condition. The air conditioner didn't work. I complained on several occasions. I was promised someone was coming to fix it but he never showed up. The mattress on the bed was sunken in on one side. I kept falling into the sunken area which was very uncomfortable to sleep. The TV was an old small 32 inch that is no longer being sold. No flat screens in the majority of the rooms. Don't believe the pictures you see online because the rooms look nothing like what they have posted. The food was not good at the buffet. No Caribbean food was served. The Coconut Grill at the pool was excellent. I came to Antigua thinking I would get some good Caribbean food but that was not the case. Stay away from the buffet and go to the specialty restaurants they are very good. The only good thing about this property is the beach. Other than that find another resort. There are several along the beach. I won't be staying at this resort again unless it's completely renovated including the buffet!
They have everything that you can possibly ask for free drinks water sports great clean rooms take the all-inclusive package. The staff is wonderful. I've stayed there two years in a row. The most incredible thing was the staff members there remembered me from the year before and cheered when I showed up this is home for me. My new favorite vacation spot.

Only thing good about this resort is the friendly, courteous and professional staff. This facility hasn't been updated since day one of being operational. So if you don't mind staying at a tired and old place, be my guest. I really don't recommend this hotel for long stays.
The beach is great though.
OK, I'm just updating this as the day progresses The hotel is even older that I thought on my first impression, one has to pay for WiFi, the staff is polite but not very helpful (blame it on the facility's shape or whatever). I saw a cute tiny chapel, I guess it used to be a wedding destination. Now, you must grow a pair to get married at this hotel. But hey! To each his own.
Still, the beach is great.
OK OK, last one, just don't do it. Do not spend your hard earned money here (I was lucky that I was here on business) And the beach simply doesn't cut it
Very friendly team at every spot on the resort. A great kids area that we could drop and leave the kids for a couple hours either in the morning or afternoon or both if we wanted. Great first time in Antigua.
Absolutely love the place. Staff really nice, food good and beach amazing. Remember though it is only 3 star so accommodation is dated
Stayed here for 3 nights, biggest mistake of my life! During my stay, I was bitten alive by bed bugs in one of the room. The crab in the bucket management staff at the property yelled and roared when I asked for a refund, which they denied. Expedia the booking site I used is refusing to intervene and investigate this incident. Do not stay at the low budget place. There are BED BUGS!! STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Humble hotel with fairly ordinary rooms but the staff outshine the outdated facilities with excellent service from the reception staff to security guards to waiters and chefs to pool house staff. Sunsets seen from the expansive shoreline are heavenly. The Caribbean Seafood restaurant served up delicious lambi and the Italian Fine Dining restaurant has the best bread ever! I had a short but rather delightful séjour at the Jolly Beach!
This is a down market, all-inclusive sun holiday destination. Loud music coming from everywhere all day and live loud entertainment every night. There is little or no real Antigua within walking distance so stay at the "Resort" or hire a car. I was placed here due to a BA delay and it really brought what had been a good time in Antigua down with a bump before flying home. Having said that; the staff were friendly and making the best of what they had to work with.
Five stars for this all inclusive Caribbean jem.
Loved it the staff are amazing, great relaxing holiday for the whole family and plenty to do if you want to.
DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE ! LONG BUT HONEST REVIEW
VACATION DATE: 6/20-25/2017
Lets start with the ONE pro before I get to all of the cons –
Employees Blondell (Concierge) , Server Jascian, Bartenders Neil & Robin, YOU ALL ARE AMAZING & AWESOME PEOPLE, MAY YOU CONTINUE TO PROIVDE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE…
Now, let’s get to the cons…I don’t know where to start:
(no particular order)
1- Plumbing/Electricity; There needs to be a daily maintenance check of all mechanical & plumbing issues in every room!! Had to change rooms the first day due to a leak in the bathroom ceiling & the ceiling fan did not work, also, make sure all of your rooms are cool with air condition upon guest arrival, room was hot when we checked in
2 – STAFF – RACISM IS ALIVE & WELL KNOWN AMONG 99% OF YOUR FEMALE EMPLOYEES, SPECIFICALLY TOWARD WHITE WOMEN & INTERRACIAL COUPLES!! REALITY CHECK – YOU WORK IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY, YOU CHOSE A JOB TO PLEASE YOUR GUESTS/VISITORS, NO MATTER WHAT THEIR RACE MAY BE, IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, QUIT! SIMPLE AS THAT.
3 – FOOD/ENTERTAINMENT – I suggest a more Caribbean feel/atmosphere, & there is barely any food of island culture served, coming from America I do not want to be served fries, burgers, & hot dogs on an island, the Hemisphere Restaurant needs to be decorated to project a more island feel. Entertainment – Its pretty much the same thing every night, reevaluate marketing & promotions perhaps with other resorts to cross promote events, bands, dance parties, djs, etc., & generate more ideas to entertain your guests otherwise people will get bored quickly…
4 – TOWELS/SHEETS – Please discard all of your towels & upgrade to softer plush towels, it feels like you are drying yourself off with sandpaper after a shower, I had to use my own beach towel (which I brought from home, thank God) because its much softer than your towels, SHEETS – way to itchy/grainy! Please switch to at least 600-800% Cotton or Soft Polyester, so people can sleep through the night without waking up to itching themselves every 5 minutes
5 – Finally CUSTOMER SERVICE – WHERE? THERE IS NONE!! Barely any of your employees smile say “HELLO”, “HOW ARE YOU?”, “MAY I HELP YOU?”, etc., everyone just looks at you like you owe them something, as stated in number 2 of this review, if you don’t like your job, QUIT!!
Summary – We did not allow several RUDE employees both ON & OFF the resort to ruin our well-earned & deserved vacation. We are business owners ourselves & do not take well to ignorance; we still stood our ground to let it be known to management it will not be tolerated!! I also suggest your staff (with the exception of those mentioned in the pro section of this review) NEED TO TAKE A CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING COURSE TAUGHT BY BLONDELL & LEARN HOW TO RESPECT, TREAT & SERVE YOUR GUESTS OFF ALL RACES, GENDERS, & AGES!! UNTIL ALL OF THESE ARE MADE, I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST NOBODY TO STAY AT THIS RESORT, PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!
Good food and service, amazing beach and sea which is perfect for swimming. Rooms are fairly basic and the overall hotel needs a bit of investment and perhaps some more facilities. A good all inclusive although if you eat by the pool prepare to be surrounded by insistent birds!
The nicest staff that i have ever seen. The resort is perfectly acceptable for all except the picky. Great value for price in Antigua. The very positive attitude of Antiguans on and off the resort seems to influence guests positively. Food was fine and service was great too.
If I could give this hotel 2.5 stars I think it would be a more accurate reflection of my experience. The staff range from very helpful to not at all and have little consistency. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and checked in at the front desk. They offered us a room with a king bed rather than two doubles as we requested so we had to wait a half hour for them to adjust. The gentleman at the desk then gave us the keys and gave us very little useful information on where to go/what to do for food/drinks/etc. We were forced to eat at the buffet for dinner the first night because the sit down restaurants were "booked." We watched as they did not fill nearly all the tables at any of the restaurants through the night. We were able to make reservations the other nights at the seafood and mexican restaurants. Seafood place was pretty good, mexican was slightly above average. The buffet food is OK but fairly repetitive and not always too flavorful. Drinks were decent and always available.
Otherwise, the non motorized water sports offered we in fact only kayaks and sailboats which you needed to take a course to be allowed to sail on. The course was only offered at 10:30 AM which is when we were scuba diving each day, so no sailing for us. The beach and ocean itself are incredible and truly make the experience worth while.
The pools are clean and refreshing and there is a daily plan of activities, albeit quite sparse and kind of ho-hum.
Overall I think I would go back armed with the knowledge I now have to improve my next stay.
The hotel shows her age all around. The breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet in the Hemmingsphere is not bad but the waiting list for the other two restaurants is insane. I tried to make reservation for the other night but one restaurant was closed and the other was fully booked. The wifi connection is a complete abuse of the guest, because you are being charged for wifi per day while you have a very bad connection and the range is limited. But despite all I had a great time and the beach and view was phenomenal.
Although the rooms need an aggressive upgrade, such as an up to date Plasma TV, better air conditioner in the rooms and last but not least more comfortable beds, I believe this hotel could be a top notch, the place to be. I was there for a week with my fiance and the staff was great and attentive. It has the best view of the beach, great excursions, drinks are on point, entertainment by the staff is spectacular and the food has a sweet taste of the Caribbean to it! I totally would come back again. With an aggressive upgrade to the rooms, I'll definitely give this hotel a 5 stars in my book!!! Today I give them 4 ****.
The beach is spectacular, but that's where it ends. This resort (?) was awful. The rooms are antiquated; not a dresser in sight, rust stains in the bathroom, loud air conditioning, postage stamp sized tv, old, old, old. Now some old is good, but not the Jolly Beach Resort. They advertise several restaurants where you can go if you don't want the buffet. Well, to make a reservation at one of those restaurants, (for the following night), you have to be at the very unfriendly concierge's desk by about 6:45 - 7:00 AM to be in line when it opens at 7:30 AM. I was the fourth person in line one morning and was told the restaurant was booked! How can that be; something's fishy there, and, on vacation I really don't appreciate having to wake at 6:00 to make a dinner reservation for the following night. The food was good at the restaurants, sub-par at the buffet.
They advertise some water crafts included such as the small sailboats, which were nice, and some paddle boards which they didn't have. The kayaking was fun.
There were a lot of people on the beach trying to sell everything from jet ski rentals to jewelry, to massages, to coconuts filled with rum. Don't expect to nap without interruption!
The pool bar was never opened and don't ask any questions; they get annoyed.
Construction was being done on the building next to mine and there was construction materials (doors, screens, cement), laying all on the lawn.
I can't even say the price is good for this so-called resort, as I do not put this in a "resort" category. I'd rather spend a grand more and go someplace that's friendlier.
But again, as I began, the beach is spectacular. A tent on the beach would've been just fine with me.
I stayed here a couple of days ago with my husband, we had such a great time there. The food was great, the stay was great, and the beach was amazing. We got the chance to do a lot of activities one of them were jet skiing with Jay he's always at the beach great person. Went Horse riding i don't recommend that it was good until the end. If you want to try an activity i highly recommend to get it through the hotel or Dave at the beach really nice guy. However I loved my stay at Jolly Beach I had a fantastic time so did my husband. Everything there is really nice and clean. I do recommend.
