    Hello ward 41 residents, City of Harare is about to roll out the installation of prepaid water meters on a trial basis to see how they work. This is a very controversial issue so we are not forcing it upon you but we will test first . We have selected 5 areas within harare, with different water problems and in each of these we choose 400 properties on which to test the 5 different types of smart meters. Note that the meters will be installed only to those who volunteer and at... no cost to council nor to rate payer.the old meters are not going to be removed,i.e. They will run parallel the prepaid and the old resisting one. We want to see that best anoung the 5 types from the 5 different companies. The companies were selected through a normal public tender process.. The Harare water technocrats will go arround the selected areas educating ratepayers about the details of this program. If anyone has questions let's hear them. Thank you

    My appologies to all residents in ward 41for our failure to provide water to you for the past 3 weeks,and the period varies from area to area due to gradient and distance from pump station.

    Despite the usual explanation that council 's capacity to produce water is 600ml per day versus a demand of 1200ml per day, we have more challenges which are the following;

    1. water production plant units are operating below capacity due to various deffects. While demand has increased th...is time of the year,losses of clean water have increased due to increased bursts,increased plant breakdown due to increased polution of raw water thus increasing costs of producing water.

    Distribution networks have leakages because the pipework in valve chambers are old and corroded such that they need replacement. A lot of repair work is ongoing but cannot completely stop the leakages. Response to these bursts is humpered by unavailability of materias ,plant and equipment.

    SOLUTIONS Rehabilitation of Morton Jaffrey WaterWorks. Council has received a grant from the African Devellopment Bank and intends to use this to repair leakages,supply of new water meters to reduce non revenue water and for sewerage treatment works. The project is at procurement stage. Bear with us ,we wish to improve the situation as quick as possible but there is no quick fix due to the above constraints. Many a time we have to shut down the plant in order to replace broken down pumps. Water is being supplied on a rotational basis but unfortunately it cannot be rationed equitably due to difficulties in water distribution. More news next time.
