FATHER'S DAY ... IS EVERY DAY As we today mark Fathers Day , let's all remember that #fathersday should be every day. Not only to celebrate or applaud but also to involve fathers more in daily family life.

The Embassy supports the involvement of fathers and men through several partners including - but not limited to - UNICEF Zimbabwe Plan International Zimbabwe SAfAIDS Save the Children in Zimbabwe .

    ...

The positive involvement of men and fathers in family life not only reduces gender inequality and domestic conflicts - it also results in healthier, happier and smarter children. Our future.

These beautiful pics all show Zimbabwean fathers in action - helping, caring and supporting their children. Photos are from a local photo competition organised by the Embassy in 2017.

BUILDING RESILIENCE IN VULNERABLE AREAS #2 : LIVESTOCK ! Earlier this month, our colleagues Gareth Horsfield & Christian Bergqvist travelled to the Southern Lowveld to witness the progress and results of the Swedish supported resilience programme under the Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund .

One of the key elements of the programme is to build the resilience of communities through various interventions - be it stronger breeds of livestock, improved water supply, drought res...istant crops or financial stability.

On pictures below, A young woman describes how layering and sequencing of interventions have dramatically changed her life and circumstances. This layering and sequencing of interventions is key to building adaptive capacity and in the long-term, transformative change that leads to resilient communities.

A Kalahari male goat, an improved breed, was given to a community in Chiredzi District which has led to production of larger and hardier offspring. As a result, the community have been able to sell their goats for much higher prices. In exchange for the Kalahari breed, the community are encouraged to give some of the kids produced to neighboring communities. As part of the ECRAS programme under ZRBF in Chiredzi and Mwenezi, improved goat shelters, raised off the ground, have seen a dramatic decline in goat mortality.
