4x4 a must
Road is horrific - can't drive here without 4x4. Saw no animals and very few (ordinary) birds. There isn't even gates at entrances.
December to February is the best time to see flowers Verloren Valei nature reserve, peaking in January depending on the rain.
Beautiful and tranquil setting. Ideal for hikers and mountain bikers. Some of the units are far away from the main building where most of the facilities are situated. Be prepared to do nothing as the units are for sleeping and resting and nothing else. If it rains it is fun catching the water indoors and reading a book. If you want a place where you do nothing but rest and chill then Verlorenkloof is the best place. Beware that the roads leading to this paradise is hell.
Our visit was in the end of summer and Frans Krige was bubbling with enthusiasm about the orchids, other wild flowers and birds.
Not great roads
There is no other place like it. Tranquil, picturesque and extremely unique for South Africa.
