Our award winning flagship GVB White Blend 2015.

This elegant Bordeaux style white is a blend consisting of 60% Sauvignon Blanc from our select Schaapenberg vineyard and 40% Semillion. Both cultivars were barrel fermented and then matured for 9 months in French Oak.

Tight, focused and beautifully integrated with herbal and grapefruit flavours. Ripe tropical notes on the nose and a long, intense aftertaste.

    ...

Best paired with fresh seafood as recommended by our winemaker, André van Rensburg.

In celebration of Arbor Week, 01-07 September 2018, Vergelegen is sharing a piece of its environmental heritage with visitors to Vergelegen Wines in the form of Yellowwood seeds for them to grow and nurture in their own gardens. In South Africa, Arbor Day was first celebrated in 1983. The event captured the imagination of people who recognised the need for raising awareness of the value of trees in our society. Collective enthusiasm for the importance of this issue in South Africa inspired the national government, in 1999, to extend the celebration of Arbor Day to National Arbor Week.

The Stables restaurant serving our top Pork dish served with our brand new 2017 Vergelegen Semillon Reserve

Our delicious dish is a Crisp cider pork belly with Dijon mash, rainbow carrots & apple sauce. Paired with our 2017 Semillon Reserve - The wine is an attractive light green colour. The nose shows delicate citrus, white flowers, honey and spice. The wine is finely focused, complex and well balanced with a crisp acidity.

Taking you back to 1992. This picture was taken just after the completion of our magnificent winery. What an amazing journey it has been since 1992 until today. A world class winery producing world class wines.

    Gladys Jafta

A familiar and bubbly face in the Vergelegen wine cellar. Gladys has been with us at Vergelegen for 22 years, from starting as a casual she is now a foreman in the cellar, playing a pivotal role in its success.

In harvest she oversees pump overs, fills up the barrels and racks the red wine barrels just to name a few of the things that keep her busy.

    ...

She is also the supervisor for the bottling, is involved in the social welfare of the cellar and ensures that health and safety standards are maintained at all times.

Additionally she trains new staff and interns, and loves doing cellar tours for the many guests that visit the winery.

In the words of her coworkers: “She communicates exceptionally well, treats all of us very well, is always upbeat and positive, and we are constantly learning from her on a daily basis. It’s a pleasure working with her.”

We thank you for all your hard work, dedication and commitment Gladys! You are certainly a big part of the family!

Cinnamomum Camphora were introduced to the Cape from China and Japan in about 1670. Van der Stel planted them at Vergelegen between 1700 –1706 and the five gigantic specimens that remain were proclaimed national monuments in 1942. They should live for another 150 – 200 years. Other camphor trees on the estate are seedlings from these five magnificent specimens.

A delicious dish from the Stables restaurant.

The Vergelegen Sirloin Burger - Lightly spiced grilled 200g sirloin, bacon, roasted field mushrooms, cheddar, caramelized onions, rocket, tomato & fresh red onion served with sides of onion rings & hand cut chips. Paired perfectly with our 2013 Vergelegen DNA.

We are very pleased to see that due to our continuous water saving initiatives, together with the great amount of rain we have had, our dam levels have gone from 47,1% (June 2017) to 74,3% (June 2018).

Extensive water saving initiatives will of course continue as every drop counts!

The Vergelegen Sauvignon Blanc Premium 2017

The 20th vintage of our classic Premium Sauvignon Blanc, made by winemaker Andre van Rensburg, is now available at the Vergelegen Tasting Centre, Stables and Camphors Restaurants.

A fresh, cool climate style wine with vibrant ripe fruit aroma and flavours balanced out with a crisp acidity and fantastic mouthfeel. The perfect white wine for any day and any occasion.

    ...

The 2017 harvest was abundant with exceptional quality grapes to produce the Sauvignon and as said by Andre: “ I enjoyed every single moment and I know it will reflect in this wine.”
