It’s weekend and time to Unwind and Restore ❤️ Friday 17.30 Sunday 17.30
These classes are 75-minutes and are sequenced to unwind the mind and the body through grounding poses that help to draw awareness into the body. Deep stretches using the aid of straps and bolsters will then bring spaciousness into the body to help restore tired and depleted tissue cells. Expect slower and deeper poses that will help you feel connected and at ease in your body.

They are predominantly constructed from natural rubber which has excellent eco-friendly properties being both recyclable and bio-degradable. The PU top layer is fully recyclable but only partially bio-degradable so recycling is recommended at the end of its life span. Email info@theshala.co.za for more info

See MoreB.K.S. Iyengar has devoted his life to the practice and study of yoga. It was B.K.S. Iyengar’s unique teaching style, bringing precision and clarity to the practice, as well as a mindset of ‘yoga for all’, which has made it into a worldwide phenomenon.
His seminal book, ‘Light on Yoga’, is widely called ‘the bible of yoga’ and has served as the source book for generations of yoga students around the world. In ‘Core of the Yoga Sutras’, he applies this same clarity to the phil...osophical core of yoga–the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are 196 aphorisms forming the foundational text of yoga philosophy. Each sutra is short and to the point – each being only a line or two long. B.K.S. Iyengar has translated each one, providing an insightful commentary and explanation for modern readers, as well as linking the various themes throughout the sutras to one another.

Pranayama is understood as breath control, yet in the yogic context is more subtle and complex than physiological respiration. The word ‘prana’ refers to our ‘vital energy’ or ‘life force’. The word ‘ayama’ means the ‘extension’ or ‘expansion’. Pranayama utilizes breathing to influence the flow of prana in the nadi’s (energy channels) of the 'pranamaya kosha' or ‘energy body’ – and is the practice of expanding our life force to go beyond normal boundaries a...nd limitations.
The breath is the most vital process of the body, influencing every cell including those of the heart and brain. The techniques of pranayama introduce proper breathing and help focus awareness, thus developing increased sensitivity to the respiratory process. Although breathing is mainly an unconscious process, conscious control of it may be taken at any time - as such it forms a bridge between the conscious and unconscious areas of the mind.
A slow breath rate keeps the heart stronger and better nourished contributing to a longer life. Deep breathing also increases the absorption of nutrients from the intestines, enhancing vitality and general wellbeing. Rhythmic, deep and slow respiration stimulates, and is stimulated by, a calm and contented state of mind.
