We have been visiting Sun City an staying at the Palace for the past 20 years. Gone are the days when the Palace was special and exclusive. It is now a family hotel with lots of children playing and screaming in the passages and in the dining room. It seemed as if the number of children sharing with parents is unlimited causing overcrowded rooms. Be prepared to stand in a long queue for breakfast as the staff are unable to handle the volumes and fail to turn over tables in time. While standing in the queue I could see vacated tables not been attended to for 10-15 minutes. At the buffet, there is a constant shortage of plates, cereal bowls and glasses for juice. During our stay of 4 days, our room was not attended to before 16.00 on any of the days. We had to ask for bottled water. It doesn't come with the room anymore. Transport from the Welcome center to the Palace is a challenge as full combis pass you by coming from the main hotel and from the Palace. Better to walk to the Soho hotel and queue for a bus than to try and get a pickup at the Welcome center.

All readers: Please take my review with a "pinch of salt". I haven't stayed at the Palace previously, so I can't compare it to how it was a few years ago. But, I can't help but wonder (from what I heard from others), if it hasn't deteriorated.

I am giving it a deliberate 4, though. Instead of the 5-star hotel it strives to be. And frankly, I could venture down to 3.5.

One doesn't expect the Palace to be short-staffed (receptionist, waiters, porters, valet, etc.) at the prices they charge, but sadly it is. Serious thought needs to be given to the importance of staff characteristics, rather than them just complying with labour law guidelines. Furthermore, there are room defects which are unthinkable.

Nonetheless, a "personal touch" with service delivery, from most (if not all) who work there.

Poor first experience at the Palace. I booked a Luxury Room for my birthday and they put me in a very old room in the construction area where they are doing refurbishments.

The room was noisy with drilling and banging even on Saturday when we were told the noise would stop by Friday afternoon. We had no hot water on Friday and Saturday and Reception said "the problem has been noted". The shower was blocked and filled up with water like a dirty swimming pool. Disgusting. I couldn't even bath my 8 month old son and my birthday was ruined.

After several phone calls, fighting and complaining they eventually moved us the next day to a new refurbished room facing the pool which was absolutely beautiful! The worst thing is why didn't they put me in that room the first time?! Because it was empty the previous day. Overall it was a little too late as my birthday was already ruined the previous 2 days.

You are better off staying in Soho Hotel or Vacation club for half the price!

A stunning place. It looks straight out of an ancient city.

Having stayed here now 3 years later, it was a breathtaking experience. I will definitely be going back there. The staff are absolutely helpful and friendly.

The hotel is amazingly impressive when one arrives. The entrance, the lobby, the salons Then one reaches the room: Bad plumping, bad electrical wiring, mediocre cleanliness.
Reservation via concierge for dinner was a disaster. When we got to the restaurant, no reservation could be found and we finally got a table next to two entrances. The dinner buffet was bit worth the money, the wines were good and not pricey.
Breakfast was time consuming as you have to wait in line for an omelet or sweets for over 20 minutes. Partly due to many people, mainly due to bad organisation. I've stayed at Hilton with similar guests on Sundays but better organized staff and surroundings.
Waiters at bars etc usually need reminders for simple things, not 5 star hotel service. Personnel definitely needs more training.

Aside from how impressive the hotel and the whole of sun city is, I cannot give more stars for the rest. For me, it was a nice experience but not as professional as one expects from such pricey 5 star hotels around the world.

This was our first visit to South Africa, based on this very positive experience, it won't be our last. An outstanding venue, a truly beautiful property populated by a wonderful team of hospitality professionals. From the buffet breakfast, through to dinner at the Grill Room, everyone is super helpful and friendly. There is so much to do and see around Pilansberg, the Game Reserve, the walks, valley of the waves, local villages, etc. Don't limit yourselves to just a weekend, make sure you stay at least a week.

Went there for the Nedbank challenge. Great service, great welcome and loads to do and see. The resort itself is old but the rooms seem to be updated regularly or they've been ahead of trends. Great for morning or late afternoon walks, but only walk where designated, there are monkeys. Beautiful setting for breakfast and almost every taste is catered for with different food stations to choose from.

The staff's excellent Food delicious and so much to do. We went quad biking in the game reserve and could literally smell and touch the animals. The trail was adventurous. The Valley of The Waves was buzzing with fellow holiday makers. The Palace is nothing of not breathtaking. We are definitely going there every year from now on

The Palace has been an icon of absolute quality & perfection for so long. Our previous visits were exquisite. This time though, they let us down. They didn't get the simple things right, like ensuring that the toilet paper holder worked properly, & staff members are well trained so that they don't forget to provide towels when servicing the rooms. And then there was Grill Room. It is supposed to be a premium steak restaurant located in the Palace, but we had the worst experience in a restaurant in a long time. They overcooked all our steaks, the service was so slow, had our main course 1.5 hours after arriving, & they weren't even busy!

Been staying in the Palace with my partner for the past week and our experience has been nothing shorter than phenomenal. The impeccable service and hospitality is out of this world. The atmosphere is amazing and amenities are perfect for a great break away from the city. The staff are extremely helpful and attentive and go the extra mile to make you feel like royalty. An absolute pleasure staying here and will most definitely be back soon!

Can't say enough about this place. I had not been in 10+ years and was blown away at how much the place has changed - for the better! We stayed at the Palace, and all staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. If any of you are reading this, THANK YOU for making my family feel so welcome. We were sad to leave, but will definitely return one day.

The most expensive hotel in the Sun City complex. Top class service rooms are top class. Nothing spared to make the customer feel comfortable.

We were greeted at check in after check time by a rude unhelpful member of staff who said the rooms aren't ready, she offered no alternative options. She said it is out of the hotels control it's the guests fault. They offered nothing for us to do while we waited for the room.

After checking into our room 4 hours later, we didn't get a call as promised saying it was ready either, we went to the room and our luggage had not been brought up for us, they told us to come back down to say which one was ours. Then an hour later they had still not brought it up for us. We had to keep phoning to make it happen.

We ordered slice of cake from room service and after an hour of waiting had still not recieved it or heard if it was on the way. There are also long waits to get breakfast as there is not enough seating when the hotel is full.

I thought this was meant to be a 5 star hotel so we were very let down by it. We have had more helpful friendly service at the Cabanas. Don't waste your money on the Palace.

The lost city golf course is a beautiful course to play. Wide fairways. Well maintained greens that are medium to fast.

We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights.
Our friends room was made up into a double and had a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket. Our room was made into twins and no wine!! We asked reception to make our bed up as a double. To be fair to the hotel - we had booked twin rooms but hey we're happy to change it into a double.
We've stayed a few times at the palace and this time we could really feel just how tired its getting. Our room, although very clean, was probably the worst one we've stayed in at the palace. The bath was chipped as was the toilet seat. The whole room just needs, as does the hotel, a coat of paint to brighten it up! The room could have been cleaner during our stay. When we closed our bedroom door the lock fell out. This didn't interfere with us getting in and out of the room but we mentioned it to concierge who said they would get it fixed - the lock was still sitting on the side when we left!
The breakfast buffet here (included in the price) is amazing and it's great to sit outside. The wifi was average to good depending on where you were. Staying at the palace gives you free entry to the valley of the waves. Based on what we did and what we are we could have stayed elsewhere in sun city for half the price ;-)

Although the hotel has long history, all hotel facilities are fully equipped and established. This hotel introduces a mashed up of human dwelling, animal activity and nature. This aspect is highly appreciated!
