This hike starts just outside Napier and offers a great variety of fynbos and some bird life. Take your binoculars.
A bit overgrown at the moment, but if you familiarise yourself with the Groot Berg beacon and Sopieshoogte beforehand navigation becomes easier.
The hike covers a distance of 8km, and takes approximately 4 hours. Moderately fit hikers can easily do it.
It starts at the FM Tower, takes you to the Grootberg beacon with spectacular views. There is parking at the FM tower.
From here on to Sopieshoogte, around the mountain and back to the start. The views are truly spectacular and a must see if you are in the area. You can see all the way to the coast on a clear day.
The half way mark is a great place to stop for refreshment at Sopieshoogte. After Sopieshoogte, the road turns back towards the town. From here you will have some of the best views of Napier.
