Played Somerset West on 9 March 2018 . Having played over 35 rounds of golf over numerous courses along the garden route this course was unfortunately in the worst condition . To be fair they have just opened a new layout comprising of 9 holes on the other side of the railway line . These nine holes are not ready for play at this time . The layout is disjointed having to underpass the railway on two occasions . The holes are well designed imitating a links course with dunes bordering the fairways however the dunes are bare earth at this time and the course resembles a building site .
The original holes have suffered with the drought and and some greens are infested with a disease. I did comment to the manager who said no complaints had been made . I have to say that surprises me as the three members playing in front were apologetic about the condition and two members I played with at Hermanus (very good condition) said that the new nine holes at Somerset West were not ready for play .
I wish the club well for the future ,but they should not be charging visitors for 18 holes whilst the course is in this condition , it will do the reputation of the club no favours .response / report this review -

Great place to go play golf and their shop has the best chicken mayo sandwiches available

The restaurant is affordably priced. I had breakfast there this morning and paid less than R45 for a delicious omelette and nice filter coffee. Neat and clean.
