We have recently visited Sable House as an overnight business retreat. What a wonderful experience. Lovely restaurant with fantastic food and drinks on arrival, beautiful game drive with complimentary drinks, platters and the sunset in the late afternoon . We had a evening in the boma around the fire, with great music and drinks. Prawns, fillet steaks, baked potato, spinach and veggies for dinner, just to name a few of the exquisite menu items that were prepared for us. Our rooms were clean, neat and tidy with everything we needed.

I commend the owners for opening the doors to us, and going the extra mile on every aspect of our visit. Wonderful and warm people who welcomed us like we were family coming to visit.

We will be back soon!

Not a very neat place, but the useless stamp your receipt system that does not add to the security at all is the absolute worst. Will definitely not visit again. Very rude security guards.

A venue with huge potential currently under poor management / supervision. I used it as a one night stop over in order to attend a wedding held close by. The Gate security was cumbersome with each vehicle required to wait long periods while driver's licences were scrutinised. It appears that the Country Retreat had failed to communicate with the gated Community access control point as this rigmarole was repeated every time I entered or left the property during the course of my 24 hr stay. On arrival at reception, no one was present, fortunately the Mother of the Bride was able to show us to our rooms. At first glance the rooms were great. Once we unloaded the vehicles we noticed a number of problems. The airconditioner would not work as the batteries in the remote were flat. Fortunately I had a torch which carried that size battery and was able to get the system running. The bedside lamp did not work and there were smeared carcasses of mosquitoes on the bedroom wall and dead mosquitoes were also lying in ambush in my wife's bed. The toilet and shower, while clean, had only one small courtesy soap and no shampoo, the toilet was loaded with a quarter full roll with one other on the box next to it. There had been no attempt to tidy the end of the toilet roll to at least make the room look fresh. Similarly, although an air freshener was available, it had already shot its bolt and was useless.

On waking early the next morning I was unable to enjoy a cup of coffee as I had already used my quota of 1 x Nescafe sachet per day and the idea of a cup of rooibos teas (4 x sachets available) just didn't do it for me.

The overnight package included breakfast and, on reporting to the dining room at 07h30 we found that there were insufficient seats for our party and other guests. Nor were guests / room numbers assigned to tables. Breakfast consisted of scrambled egg, cocktail viennas, bacon, fried tomatoes and toast with preserves. Unfortunately the kitchen could not keep up with demand and there were critical shortages of both bacon and toast.

While the serenity of the environment and the presence of game and birdlife was wonderful, The management of the facility left a lot to be desired and for a cost of R2200.00 per room per night, I had expected far better service.
