Great food, reasonably priced. Just a little busy so the noise levels took away from the fine dining experience. It's still a great venue.
Classy and elegant. Wonderful experience. The food was excellent, starters, mains and desserts, not to mention the amazing views.
FYI, Note there is a 10% service charge on the total cost of your meals.
A fantastic excursion. This restaurant is utterly unique and offers patrons something different. Watch the beautiful city from all sides as you enjoy mouth-watering, classic dishes.
Place is very nice with a great view and good staff but we found out that oysters aren't fresh and are frozen as well as the owner was very pushy in what to eat. He wouldn't let me order a pasta I enjoy and insisted on something with more meaty. Still a nice place and would go back there without the owners assistance.
The experience was nothing short of breathtaking. The food was great, the prices are reasonable in comparison to other restaurants. The service was exceptional. The views are really stunning. We arrived at 6 (in summer) so we had a full rotation viewing the entire scenery during the day with natural light, thereafter we got to experience the view at night so it was stunning.
Great and reasonably priced venue. We had the Pescatora and the freshly caught local fish, Deep Grounder.
We were informed all fish was caught by the company's own fishing boat and we tried some wine from their own vineyard.
The Italian owner was very pleasant and friendly with his recommendations and history of the restaurant.
The restaurant revolves around once per hour so a meal should let you see all the sights.
Enjoyable venue and food. Nice views. Entrance on groundfloor could be more inviting, and decor a bit tired in restaurant. Parking options limited.
Interesting menu and a great variety of foods. They have a great wine and desert selection. The waiters is friendly and the service is excellent. This is one of the few revolving restaurants in the world.
My first visit and blown away by the view, food and friendly service. While food took a little while it was worth the wait and we got to enjoy the view longer. Highly recommend the experience.
Step into a world away from the every day dining experience. The decor, music, ambience and staff transport one to an old world charm dining experience. Best experienced in the evening. The sky bar upstairs is more trendy. Used primarily for smoking. The menu is a bit outdated, however it works in line with the personality of the venue. Priced higher than other restaurants. However you are paying for the experience rather than the food. Sampled 6 dishes including starters, main and desserts. Only the crayfish bisque was WOW. The others were OK. 6/10 . Service was practically non existent. Our waiter kept scooting past us and we had to keep asking other severs to assist.
Had a steak, "old mans steak". Was done really well... would have it again. Service was great and views even better. The parking in the evening is very questionable/scary. I rate security should walk clients to their cars. Other than that, the dessert trolly was a nice ending...
Amazing food. Amazing service (well from the manager). Amazing view. Just a great experience. We loved it.
Amazing, authentic Italian food. Service however, is practically non existent, perhaps because the service charge is added to the bill. As a former waiter, I enjoy tipping well. I would not, however have tipped anything close to the standard service percentage due to the lack of interest. Doubt that the waiters see much of the service charge. Disappointing.
I was very disappointed with my experience at Roma. Upon taking my order, the waiter told me openly that the pasta I was ordering was bland and I should order something else - I would hope that any restaurant that prices it's food so highly would try to focus on ensuring that everything on the menu is delicious. The portion was tiny for what we paid for and we waited long for our orders to be taken and to order dessert and the bill. The decor is of poor taste and cheap. The atmosphere is stale and it feels as though the restaurant is still trying to be what would have been a slightly upmarket restaurant in the 60s/70s. The only highlight of the whole evening is being able to say I've been to a revolving restaurant but I will certainly never be going back.
My recommendation to the owner is to maybe drop the themed idea, make the restaurant an authentic and unique experience and rather ensure that all the food is good so the waiters don't have to criticise your order.
We loved this restaurant. Although the service wasn't the best, the food was exceptionally good. And the owner of the restaurant personally took our orders and spent time with us. Overall, the experience was fantastic.
The service was average but the highlight was the owner and Gordon. The owner takes your order himself and shares stories about his life... The desert tray and the view was exceptional. Definitely a must to on your visit to Durban. Food prices is fair and a nice menu to select from! We will definitely recommend it. Ask to be served by Gordon who has worked here for 36years, he is quite a character!
This is a great place to experience as the views are amazing. Booking is required. The food is ok. The dessert cart is my reason for visiting...and if you are celebrating something, they will put up decorations at your table. The area outside is shady so be alert.
Terrible Service. Below Average food at a high price. Unappealing Location. Sad decor.
My 12 year old son disparagingly called it Roma "Revolting" Restaurant.
The only thing of substance was the view of the city, but could that at a cost of a coffee.
Seems to be popular with tourists, but they don't realise how much more Durban can offer.
Food was mediocre at best. They got my order wrong, but after waiting more than an hour for the food to arrive there was no chance of me sending anything back. Very pricey, and they include service charge on the bill. Were it not for that I doubt we would have paid it - service was shoddy. Decor is dated. The view is one of the best in Durban though.
My advice: grab a drink at their bar and have it upstairs in the old nightclub.
