I really like this place. I frequent this place very often. The trails range from moderate to slightly difficult. The river runs along most of the trails and I definitely enjoy the boulder hopping on the river a lot.
The trails are moderate in distance with one being very long (about 2.5km one way) and a very short one. Do prepare to get your feet wet as in the summer the river flows not a lot where you won't be able to cross but just enough that it's nigh impossible to cross without stepping in the water.
However I must voice my discontent at how the park managers have neglected to clean the river after the heavy rains and flood we had the year before. Most of it is gone but along some parts, bits of rubbish that was washed onto the river banks still remain. If not for this, I would've given Palmiet 5 stars.
Bonus: the toilets are really clean and private. Not forgetting the big thatch roof structure which is great for hosting events.
Great natural area in the heart of Westville
Beautiful hideout / getaway on our doorstep. Hidden local treasure. Not enough exposure given to this gem.
I'm sad when I see people leaving litter here, and some industrial waste from Pinetown and New Germany runs into our beautiful river. But thankfully there is a pretty pond with fish, and lots of different varieties of frogs, chameleons, dassies, birds and a great walk through the forest to some small waterfalls. Even duiker and bush buck to be seen if your're very fortunate.
Very pleasant place. Bring the charcoal and meat.
Lovely place for a braai, friendly and helpful staff
Surprising little gem in the middle of Westville.
Cut-off from the world and water fall, flowing water, serene and quiet. Good braai facilities and safe. Free entrance. Visitors can hike, not much place for running, or doing others activities than relaxing only. no jungle gym for kids.. but a place to visit for sure.
Beautiful, especially when walking down the riverbed. Lots of fun with the family.
In this world where everything costs so much, it's refreshing to enjoy a safe and beautiful free walking trail in the bush. Very clean and patrolled by the parks board.
Very well maintained trails that are hardly used by the public (free access)
