Let me start of by saying if you come here and expect an Elangeni or Holiday Inn experience, then rather don't come here as you will only be disappointed.
But if you look for a place of tranquility, that little piece of peace on earth blended in with the rich history and old age of superb hospitality of modern day staff. then Mountain Park Hotel is the place to be.
The hotel is old, very old, and eerie, and it is an absolute gem for those who like adventure and who are not worried about things like only a bath in the room and not a shower, or very simple very small rooms, but with beautiful views of the nature around the Hotel.
If you like to relax in the shade under the trees, or on a chair next to the pool or in the stunning lounge. Then this is the Hotel for you. Activities are limited to the surrounding areas, Be willing to drive a bit.
The old rustic almost dilapidated look makes everything so much more authentic when considered it was build in 1940. and yes, a ghost hunter or paranormal investigators paradise.
Night times and early mornings are filled with the beautiful sounds of nature and even when enjoying a cup of coffee or tea outside you are surrounded by birds and just plain breathtaking, relaxing beauty.

My wife and I were luck to have our honeymoon weekend there on 10 - 12/03/2017. The reception we received was overwhelming. The staff and manager was such a pleasant and friendly bunch of people to be around that we felt very sad to actually had to leave on Sunday 12 March 2017 to return home.

What was even more sad was to see people arriving at the Hotel and then leaving again after seeing the rooms, or finding out the bar currently has no liquor license due to new ownership.

No consideration are given to the poor staff and manager by just simply cancelling your stay there just because people always want 5 star plus treatment. No consideration are given when cancelling or by just not turning up to the staff that actually need to make a living working at this hotel.

The Hotel might not be in the correct location for these high rollers and wanna be's. But if you go there in the right frame of mind and spirit and you can see and feel what we have felt, then you do not need to be in an Elangeni or Holiday Inn or Royal Hotel, Tranquility, peace and rest that is obtained here is worth a 100 gold stars.

Mountain Park Hotel will definitely be on my return list for future get aways. And to those that think they are above these type of places. Please disappear.

The BEST country hotel experience in the Southern Berg! A perfect base from which to explore the surrounding areas. If you are into fauna and flora, Bulwer Mountain (adjacent to the hotel property) is one of the most astonishing sites of bio-diversity (especially for indigenous orchids and bulbs) in KZN. The old-world charm and hospitality is guaranteed to exceed all of your expectations!

We had an awesome time at Mountain Park Hotel. It was the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The weather was chilly when we arrived, but we had drinks near the fireplace at the bar.Very cozy and romantic.Food was very good and portions were generous. When the weather improved we did a hike from the property,up the mountain and came back for a refreshing dip in the pool. Our host,Martin, was an absolute gem and all the staff were friendly. Its a short drive to Underberg and Himeville with loads to explore. All in all,a very memorable getaway.
