Beautiful Cape Dutch Church. Not enough parking.
In my opinion one of the most beautiful Churches, if not the most beautiful historic Church in South Africa. Second oldest Church established in 1686, after the Grootte Church in Cape Town CBD. Very well looked after, so much history inside with a timeline as you enter. Was designed by famous Architect Carl Otto Hager from Dresden.

The first pulpit was made by Adam Albertyn in 1721. Carpenter Londt manufactured the second one in 1853, but was replaced by the pulpit which is in the Church today, also designed by Hager in 1863.

The first organ was completed in 1801, and a second one was received as a gift from the Grootte Kerk in Cape Town in 1832. The third organ was built by hand in England and installed in 1863. This was replaced by the present (4th) organ in 1953. However the elegant mahogany cabinet housing the organ pipes and the front pipes of the old organ of 1863 were retained.

The stained-glass windows in the Church were made according to a French method of coloured glass in concrete, a result of the more modern building techniques which uses reinforced concrete. The artist is Leo Theron, and is regarded as a pioneer and the most important master of his field.
Baie lekker . GOEIE diens
Beautiful historic church in Stellenbosch. Beautiful interior. A must-see.
Beautiful Cape Dutch architecture in this student town. Stellenbosch can get very busy though, so plan your trip carefully avoid times when the are inter-varsity sporting events.
