What is it in those walls that bonds the hearts of men?

The first time I arrived at College to watch a rugby match, I was quite weary due to the past experiences at various schools in KZN (which shall not be named). I was amazed at how well the Rugby and Hockey players were playing and the support of their fellow pupils. Big ups to the coaches for instilling in them the correct values while playing.I saw such great potential and skill on those fields. I also took a tour around the school and not once did I pass a College boy who didn't greet me with respect. Very clean school with an excellent Drama department. I took part in the play "All Shook Up" and it still amazes me how at home I felt. The camaraderie and sheer brotherhood between everyone was so enlightening. The boys are respectful, humble and kind.
I HIGHLY recommend this school to anyone who wants their son to be a futuristic leader in the world as well as a respected member of society with all the correct values instilled in him. Proud College supporter.

It was a privilege to watch your U/16 Hockey boys play at the Grey Hockey festival.

As a former hockey player in the Natal and Free State province, I can comment that the team was well organised, the team was dedicated and the team made a consistent effort in there matches.

I look forward to seeing the boys play at future tournaments and future Derby days.

It was a privilige to see the various U/18 hockey teams play at the Derby day between Grey College Bloemfontein and Maritzburg College.

As a previous hockey player in both the Natal and Free State provinces, saw a lot of skill in all the matches.

I found the teams very disciplined, fast paced and energised.

Congratulations to all the coaches, congratulations to all the teams.

Maritzburg College, as a State school in Kwazulu-Natal, defies all commonly accepted perceptions of state schools. Why is this so?

Firstly, it has a history of 153 years of developing fine young men in a boys' only environment - its traditions, values, ethos and results have grown and become refined over many years, establishing standards and expectations that are the envy of most.

Secondly, with the support of its wide-spread Old Boy network and its passionate parent body, plus an engaged and committed Governing Body, the school is extremely well resourced, and able to offer boys a choice of 19 subjects, 16 different sports codes and 12 cultural activities.

With 100 teachers, our overall staff:pupil ratio is 1 to 13 and average class sizes are on a par with private schools at 24 boys in a class. They enjoy well appointed classrooms with school-wide WiFi coverage, digital learning with iPads, academic extension well beyond the curriculum, as well as support through extra lessons and peer tutors.

Thirdly, the school focuses a great deal of attention on preparing boys for their lives after school - considerable effort goes into developing their self-discipline, confidence, respect and work ethic. So in addition to their academic preparation and knowledge base, they are encourage to get involved in extra-curricula activities that help them develop a sound understanding of themselves, their colleagues and their community. Apart from activities such as sport, chess, debating and drama, they get very involved in outreach programmes and environmental causes. Every boy in every grade gets to experience annual leadership camps, plus a mentoring programme that involves weekly opportunities to develop leadership skills and be mentored by academic staff and student leaders.

All in all, Maritzburg College offers an educational experience that prepares young men thoroughly for their futures, and encourages bonds of friendship that last a lifetime.
