A wonderful experience of being in the home that one of our most famous sons of the soil lived in. A truly humbling experience to have spent time in the yard that our first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, lived in before he was imprisoned. Highly recommended for everyone that can get there to actually visit.

It would be difficult to visit SA and not see this house but it's overpriced and very thin on information. If you're not visiting as part of an organised tour take care as it's more than a little intimidating outside. I drove myself and young lads blocked the street in front on my car asking for money to protect the car. Unfortunately there were no police around when I visited

Great historic place in South Africa. If you ever visit SA, do come see our presidents old house, tours for all ages are available. Great history lessons as well.

Great urban vibe, amazing atmosphere. The house itself it's beautiful, very informative. Be prepared to emerge in part of the history of Nelson and Winnie Mandela.

Premises are very clean and organised.

There is rich history about the late great Statesman. The place is very welcoming and friendly with the tour guides there very helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the place. They are quite passionate about what they do and you would swear they were present when the history unfolded.

Truly an amazing experience. Never got to meet Madiba but walking through his home gave me a sense of who he was and the foundation he set for his family. The house carried so many of his awards and accolades. The cast iron stove and the red polished stoep reminded me of all the warm places I had visited in my own childhood. 😄

I think the thing that resonated with me the most is the fact that the moment you step in to the house you really feel a part of the history. The furniture is still there. A visit to this place made me feel like I knew this family, it felt like at any moment they could just walk in. It all felt so surreal but it is a must see for both National and International tourists.

Mandela House museum is a great place to visit and learn something new about the great man.

Since it's located on the famous Vilakazi Street, perhaps I should say more about The street itself. The young boys who beg for money and the few vendors who try to force you into buying their goods are the only problem with Vilakazi Street. Otherwise the place has a great vibe. Lots of history and culture.
Wide selection of restaurants in case you want to grab a bite or have some drinks. Several outlets selling African crafts, and several groups of performers offering a selection of SA culture: gum boots, Zulu dances, Pantsula dances, etc.
Secure parking for about R20 for the entire day. Yes, you can easily spend the entire day at Vilakazi Street.
