As part of my annual pilgrimage to the Lowveld I always try to support some of the local initiatives. This year I went to revisit the botanical gardens.

The gardens were interesting especially the breakdown into dryer and wetter regions and there were plenty of info boards around. The section with medically significant plants are especially valuable.

But sadly, I was told at the gate that the restaurant is closed because their contract expired and they haven't appointed a new contractor for two months. Obviously bureaucracy is more important that customers. My rating of 3 is based on the trees and not the staff.

A very tranquil place, good picnic spot. If you love plants and trees, go there. Good venue for functions. Hood venue for educational needs trips for schools. Good trails. Bird watching spot.

The gardens and variety of plants are out of this world! We were pleasantly surprised by the gardens and all amenities. We also had lunch at the restaurant, also a very pleasant experience.

The gardens are good for family visits and picnics. There are places for conferences, weddings and church services. If you need to get away from noisy cities to a place where you shall get peace and inhale clean air. This is the best place to be.

Beautiful gardens with interesting bird life. Plenty of paths with different terrain. Educational. Two lovely restaurants. A kiddies playground. Lovely open lawns for picnics or relaxing in the sun. Usually quiet, even on weekends. Close to town. Two stunning waterfalls.

What a beautiful place to spend the day. Be warned that you will have to walk up and down slippery areas. Not recommended for people with knee problems, toddlers, eldery folk or strollers. But a wonderful place for a half day hike. Will go there again

A great way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The botanical gardens are gorgeous and well maintained.

Sometimes, during the warmer summer months, live music shows are held in the warmer, summer months.

It's an excellent place to come for a walk, unwind, and be around nature. There are some wonderful photo opportunities for weddings, and venues for children birthday parties.

Amazing lush subtropical paradise around the spectacular gorges of the Crocodile River. Excellent restaurant that even makes a top class espresso. Well worth a visit.

A gem of Nelspruit. A wonderful day or a few hours amongst fabulous flora. Good sightings of bird species. Great waterfall especially in rainy months. Well priced. Wear a hat, good walking shoes and enjoy a relaxing day.

The place could use some rain, the wallfalls are almost dry, the bridge walks is a nice experience. The variety of botanical species are limited are not well documented to help the tourist appreciate the nature. The restaurant and the food is great at a very affordable price.

Peace and serenity.. Go and feed your soul. Everything a botanical garden should have..but in addition its situated on the banks of a river with tumbling waterfalls over majestic rocks. Walkways are beautifully constructed over and above the river. Don't miss this place..

Great for outdoor picnics. Lovely space for relaxing and unplugging. Beautiful spot really. Go on now, go for a hike and come back to spoil yourself by the restaurant located close to the entrance.

One of the best Gardens I have seen, Friendly staff. Amazing scenery just lack basic comfort for employees and the map is not completely accurate. Not that you can get lost with high security.

A Nelspruit Must See - tucked away behind the mall lies a veritable oasis for locals and tourists alike. I adore these gardens: they're lush, tropical, and I could sit and watch the waterfall for hours.

The restaurant at the gardens is also excellent - great portions, excellent food, and unbelievable prices (if you're a foreign tourist you might as well just eat here every day it's cheaper than cooking)
