Had a hip replacement on 6 November. The nursing care was exemplary. No exceptions. This was my 10th surgery at various hospitals over many years so I think I'm qualified to make a fair and objective assessment. I have never been so well cared for. To the kitchen staff the cleaners the nursing staff - thank you thank you thank you. I salute every one of you.

Neurology floor is good, clean with some small 2 bedded rooms
Night staff and night sister SISTER MCEWAN very kind helpful and seems to do all the nursing there when on duty.
Day staff appalling too many of them all chatting round the nursing station.
I was admitted at 8.30 am shown to room no problem unfortunately specialist had a delay and only saw him at 5pm nothing to drink not even water from 9pm the night before. By the time I got to theatre I was so dehydrated the anaesthetist battled to find a vein. Op went fine, such a brilliant neurosurgeon. Got back to ward and no supper they couldn't even produce a sandwich. Eventually was brought 2 cups of milos.
Next morning get woken at 4.30 told to get up and shower declined as was waiting for waterproof dressing. Them they wanted to take temperature and do BP for a second time before breakfast and I refused until dressing was brought. That seemed to work and was followed by terrible breakfast of cold scrambled eggs and soggy toast. Had told staff I was being collected by a working friend at 10.00am . Then they had script but said I had to pay for it so declined as didn't want to wait any longer.
Day staff so lazy and uninterested they had not even made a list of valuables theatre staff had to do that at 5pm.
No clean water and no glass just a cup to drink out of.
They call this and certainly charge for first class nursing I think it's shocking that they get away with the level of staff.
Theatre staff and recovery staff good. But where do they get these day staff from.
If the neurosurgeon did not practise from entabeni I would refuse to go in the door.

It is rather ironic that the hospital's financial administration is NOT supporting service delivery. Even emails to the support email address bounce back. An email to the Finance and Administration Manager, Vivek Maharaj also bounces back - "email inbox full"!

This is no place to heal. ICU staff are well trained and streets ahead of the normal ward nursing staff. Night staff are the worst I have ever experienced. The food is inedible, but worst is the lack of care and training from general nursing staff. Management should make a visit to Gateway and Hillcrest Hospitals to get an idea of how things can be done. Avoid at all cost. For the price they charge they simply do not deliver.

Since 21st September 2015 I have had 6 admissions ranging from 58 and as little as 5 days, all of these in the orthopedic ward (Five-E) and all because of one severe accident, follow up surgeries and complications. Besides saving my life I have being treated with dignity and respect, especially during those times I was so broken that I could not do anything for myself. At a subsequent visit I once mentioned to a nurse that it sometimes feel that I had more personal care in the early days than later on and she said that the more broken the patient, the more care he or she needs. Now when I look back and think of all the colourful people and patients I have met I tend to agree. Just a thank you to the hospital and the staff that makes the hospital what it is. Nursing is an ungrateful occupation. Keep it up. I will see you again soon.

My suggestion just don't go there.
Just been recently admitted and discharged. My experience was horrible
Beds old and uncomfortable; bed linen old and frail; emergency remote faulty heating up-safety hazaard! Food awful had to buy my own food. Nursing staff very rude and unconcerned didn't get water or even a drink with meals. Placed a jar of water on the day I was discharged with no glass. Patient Toilets disgustingly filthy. Received service from one nurse and tea lady on the night staff. The Day staff were the worst I have ever experienced. Just terrible for a paid service!!! not like its a government hospital where you expect this. :(

The hospital is supposed to be one of the finest hospitals in the city . This is an absolute joke! ! The toilets in the trauma unit alone is a health risk.I was admitted to ward 201 and i must admit I am not one to play the race card but the old white nurses (2 in particular) speak and treat patients of colour as idiots!! The toilets in that ward is ALWAYS filthy when this was brought to "managements" attention their reason was that there is an influx of ladies on that floor using the toilets!Entabeni hospital could also use a change of their catering service provider. I would NEVER go to that hospital again and would NEVER recommend it to any other person! If you want disgusting service then that is the place to go . Don't get me wrong I had an awesomely amazing team of doctors . Sadly they were based on site.
