The most beautiful building with an extraordinary art collection. It is a feast for the senses. However Jo'burg municipality does not look after their jewels. The building is in such a state. So sad that political leaders ignore and marginalise the arts.

It was terrifying driving through Hillbrow to get there. The Gallery self was wonderfully quiet, but the lack of art was a bit disappointing (The second floor was closed). There are some beautiful artworks on display and I liked the little informative notes throug-out the gallery

Entrance is free to JAG
I gave it 4 stars only because of the location, alas the neighborhood can be much nicer, and the gallery can stand to have bit more pieces but that in no way means that it is not a place worth visiting for anybody who appreciates art, even a noob like me.
Contains several collections, gift shop and small art corner for kids.
Those are some of the pieces displayed there
A definite recommendation!

Good architecture for a museum. Great spaces and good lighting. Nice cafe. We went to the Andy Warhol exhibit and I would definitely recommend it. The area is fine to leave your car parked on the street, obviously empty or without valuables in sight.

The Park is not good. The gallery is good. Surrounded by tsotsis. Be very careful when visiting the area

Wonderful quiet museum. Had a lovely time here. Get a taxi right to the front door if you are not sure where to go. The entrance is to the right side and just buzz the door to be let in.
Full of great work. The area is really busy and exciting.

This gorgeous gallery made me sad. You can see that it once was iconic, but it's clearly no longer the case. Sad how such a beautiful gem lies in the heart of the city, in a part that is one of the busiest, but remains empty and cold. Looking forward to seeing what the new management revives it.

JAG is a cultural gem slap bang in the middle of Johannesburg. The diversity of local and international art is fantastic, not too mention they have work from the past three centuries. To top it off I was amazed to see that they had art by Picasso, Chuck Close, Monet and other really famous artists. There's also ample parking and the entrance turned out to be free. Finally, it has to be said that the building itself is more than a hundred years old and exquisitely built. Well worth anyone's time.
