Terrible. The floor was sticky, it smells of stale beer, no direction as to where to go to get the key and check in. We eventually realised it's the barman who's checking the booking while serving beer. Far more pricey than its worth. Avoid like the plague
A warm welcome. Love it
If you are looking for a good place to sleep overnight, on a budget, then definitely book yourself in. It not a hotel or a guest house so don't expect luxury. The beds are comfortable enough, the kitchen has some utilities and the bathrooms could do better, for starters a double ply toilet paper and a bath towel.
I definitely need free Wi-Fi if I'm touring, especially on a budget. You can offer an option of buying food after coming from a touring expedition or backpacking the whole day.
Nice neibourhood, tight security, beautiful city overall.
Good place for those with a tight budget. Centrally located in Stellenbosch. A minute away from the main mall and in the heart of the town.
Known to the students as a drinking place I didn't even know it was a place to stay, great for a drink more popular with a slightly older crowd 2nd year up
Great for young students on a budget. Very small but barmen are legendary.
We arrived and immediately saw that the hostel is not like the pictures on their website. The rooms were very cold, the kitchen was basically non existent and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. We did not feel safe in the area either, and when we parked our car at the mall overnight (as per suggestion by reception) we ended up having to pay R150 when we were told it would only be R25. They also allowed a couple to share a bed, which led others in the room to be uncomfortable. For the price, this hostel is not worth it.
It is worth mentioning that the bar had a cool vibe and the staff is very nice!
The double room was clean and comfortable. I found the pace of service to be too slow and forgetful for my liking and the cashier didn't have any change so we had to wait quite a bit of time to get the change when we were rushing to check out to make it to our next engagement.
Beautiful yet practical place for all types of backpackers.. loved it
Dear Managers of Ikhaya Backpackers Lodge,
I write this letter is great disappointment and disgust with the highly disrespectful occurrence that took place in Room 215 last night
Two of the ladies that shared the room with myself and a Canadian lady by the name Sally, these 2 women who were already booked in earlier yesterday, arrived at the room after an evening out, returned with a male visitor. One of the ladies (with long dark hair) got into bed last night with her male visitor and had the most outrageous SEXUAL ENCOUNTER ENDING IN ORAL SEX in the room for a solid 45 minutes or more.
I am horrified with this ordeal that kept the entire room from proper sleep, to top it off further she kept entering and leaving the room on a few occasions after her sexual pleasure was over and would then leave the door slightly ajar, putting the rest of us further at risk.
I wish to advise that you separate males from sharing the same dormitory with females and as well, as the room was also shared by 4 Women and one Male, in my opinion I don't believe that this is good thing as l was very uncomfortable with this setup in general outside of the sexual encounter.
For the good health of your business I would like to suggest that your put stricter business measures in place in the future, whilst I also understand that you cannot control or be responsible for peoples behaviour.
Regards
Claudene Ross
Greatest coffee! Friendly staff
Nice place to chill with colleagues 😁
Decent place with the facilities a bit old but great location to go out in Stellenbosch and visit the Vineyards all around the city.
