The road in is “off road”.
The self catering place is okay - it has the basics you need but the kitchen is outside, so this morning I woke up with a warthog eating out the dustbin.

It’s very quiet and not a place I would stay at for more than a day but I’m not a real nature lover who can sit and look at the mountains.

The pool was not working so I pretty much stayed indoors and read.

I gave a very average rating here. I found the chalets a little lacking purely because the manager taking the booking did not mention each chalet has different options and ours ended up without kitchenette or even a fridge because I was not advised or asked (which by my assumption of a cabin type deal was that a would be at least partially self catering). I went off I search of the restaurant at about 19h00 Friday and found it closed. Had to get the manager to open the bar to get a few drinks. No lighting so at night it can be very dark and ended up cutting my foot open when I put my foot wrong.

The highlight was that the property is actually divided into two with the adjacent part being a wildlife rehabilitation centre. That's where the great benefits come in. Pot belly pigs, friendly dogs, buck, geese, and more wander the property. In the cages going through rehabilitation before release are monkeys, mongoose, meerkat, baboons and more. This is where the kindness exudes. I am also told that starting Jan 2017 that management of the lodge and property is being taken back and that great improvements are scheduled. This is a great opportunity and one can even become a volunteer at the facility developing it over the next year. Good luck.

What a wonderful laid back environment. The atmosphere was wonderful (like being at a home away from home). The food was great and it is definitely a place you should go to if you are not looking for anything more than rest & relaxation. The owners are friendly people, the monkeys are beautiful and the playground, pool area and the space generally is very well kept.

I will definitely go back there!

Hlumu Lodge was incredible! We went for our anniversary and absolutely loved it. We arrived hours before check in and were welcomed with open arms and shown to our lovely, clean and quaint log cabin. We went adventuring and arrived back to the lodge where we were offered a Monkey tour on the house. We had emailed prior to organise a romantic dinner, of which they accommodated us immaculately. We had a T bone and Chicken Better than the 5 star lodge we went to the year before! The chef was friendly and made us feel like royalty. They set up a private table in the dinning room, next to the fire with the wine we requested (of which they sourced before we arrived) We enjoyed drinks at the bar with all the volunteers and staff, not only did we feel part of the family but we had a ball of fun. We got to see a baby monkey that was bought in and learnt about the sanctuary, which is incredible and what the staff do is extremely humbling. The cabin views are amazing and we felt at peace.

I would highly recommend Hlumu Lodge. Ali, Martin, Mitch and all the Volunteers were amazing to us and we are most definitely going back. You made our Anniversary, one to remember!

The service here sucks. Same menu and its not even ok food. Monkeys vandalise the cottages. Owner does not listen to complaints insists the customers are the ones with the problem. One time the cook was drunk and food always takes over half an hour for simple eggs and a russian.

I do not recommend this place
