My 90 year old father was admitted to Hillendale after he broke his hip in August 2016. This was the worst experience ever and he is lucky to have survived his stay there! First of all his medical care was below standard . I am a physician myself working with many elderly patients in a rehab hospital in Canada, which makes me a fair judge.Maybe I was expecting too much- first world medicine in a third world country???My parents definitely payed a first world price!!!
What I found the hardest to deal with ,was how we as a family were treated . Whenever we questioned anything the entitled social worker was asked to “deal” with us, which she did in a very condescending way. We were not allowed to visit outside of visiting hours. Even on the day I traveled back to Canada, I briefly went in to say my goodbyes and it only took 2 minutes for the social worker to show up and ask me to leave.I am still traumatized by the experience and feel guilty that I didn’t stand up more for my parents. I am grateful that my mother had the insight to “rescue “ him from Hillendale !!!!
